What’s a used Solex set-up worth these days? The set includes both vintage carbs, manifolds, water tube and linkage. The set hasn’t run in years but is complete. I just need to descide if it’s worth selling or hang on to them. Thanks Rick

I haven't seen anything advertised for less than $2500 lately. Don't know if they sold for that, but don't recall seeing any being advertised for the second time.

Cant give a answer to your question but would bet they are worth more after a rebuild. Rebuild kits arent necessarily cheap either.

The gasket kits are fairly inexpensive $26.00 each for the type 2 and type 3, and $25.00 for the type 4. The problem is taking them apart correctly inspecting them and properly reassembling them, there are a lot of parts in the carbs over 100 pieces in each one. There is a great deal of things that can be done wrong and will effect the performance of the carbs. That said I don’t mind offering guidance or recommending a good dealer to have them rebuild.

Unfortunately, they aren’t worth anything. But, I’ll save you the trouble of hauling them off for scrap, and give you some beer, pizza, or doughnuts. Your choice.

I guess it depends on how you want to drive, slow or fast.

I have a parts car 1968 2000 with the engine trans in it the body is pretty much crap. But it has the perfoSolex set up with the competition oil pan on it. I have a 67.5 with the same set up and just bought this for parts but I am contemplating selling both cars so just trying to test the price of parts on the 68 or just selling the complete car. If your 68 has the solex's AND the aluminum pan, then it probably has the B cam as well. You might want to spend some time investigating the motor and suspension for other upgrades. Be sure to check the rear end to see if it may be a limited slip or have an optional gear ratio.

This is an ex race car from the 70’s so it may.

How do I confirm if it’s a limited slip vs a standard rear end? For gear ratio do I count teeth or wheel revolution? Thanks

To check if its limited slip, jack up the rear so both tires are off the ground. Turn one rear wheel. If the other wheel turns in the same direction; it's an LSD. If it turns in the opposite direction; it's a standard diff.

Any way to verify gear ratio without pulling pumpkin and counting teeth?

You can get a rough idea of the ratio by putting a mark on the drive shaft and then rotate a rear wheel one full revolution. Make note of how many revolutions the drive shaft makes. If the drive shaft turns 3 and 3/4 times than you have a 3:75 ratio, if it turns 4 times than its a 4:00 ratio ect. The common ratios for the roadster are
3:70
3:90
4:10
4:38
4:62
5:13
These numbers are approximate, not exact.
Note; if a limited slip is worn (i.e. The clutch plates are slipping) than it may act like an open differential during the direction of rotation test.
