Has anybody got a 67.5 they can shoot a photo of and give me the measurements for the opening in the tunnel? It has the big oval for either 4 speed or 5 speed. Putting a 5 speed in my 66.

Thanks.

Thanks, just the length of the hole only is what I need. Someone already butchered the hole for a 5 speed and I want to fix it.

Does the cut out have a rolled edge and is it the same width full length?

I know this is an old thread but I was looking at the shifter hole yesterday. Mine 67.5 shifter hole looks to be factory, big enough for both shifter locations & has a rolled edge.

My question is what keeps water from getting up under the shifter plate? The shift boot is on the plate so it can’t seal the hole & besides, it is smaller than the body hole. I can’t imagine that there is nothing to keep water out. The parts manual doesn’t show anything either.

I thought the rubber shift boot was on the body & the vinyl boot on the shift plate.

I have a rubber boot that came from Dean that has holes that match the shift plate & an old NOS 32869 14802 rubber boot that fits also. Neither will close up the body hole & with the lip, the old boot won’t fit the body.

What am I missing?

Peace,
Pat

Nothing missed I think, you are correct that there is only the rubber and vinyl "covers". I took an aftermarket shift boot that was bigger than the hole and installed it upside down from the hole to the shifter, then used the stock rubber and vinyl covers above that. The stock Rubber one is already breaking down, even with the additional protection.

That seems odd. Is your body hole the size of the boot or is it long enough to clear both shifter locations?

Good point! I have a 67.5 1600, in which I have upgraded to a 5- speed. Therefore I had to cut the hole larger to accommodate. So that is why I needed/wanted additional coverage.

Yea, I’m adding a 5 speed to my 67.5. I don’t have to cut the hole, it came oversized from the factory. I’m trying to figure out how to keep the carpet dry.

As far as I know 67.5 should all have the hole to accommodate 4 and 5 speed.

You are correct, I am confusing the work I did with Chris on his car when we swapped transmissions. We did have to cut his tunnel and ended up with the bigger hole. On my 67.5 I did add the extra boot to keep the oil off the backside of the stock shifter boot. I think I posted photos here somewhere!
