Funny how some of these threads keep popping up. Both of my cars have been cut out and will get 5 speeds. I just brought the body home from the paint job.

Curtis, It's a great feeling to be that much closer.
So can someone tell me are the 4 speed and 5 speed interior shifter trim pieces the same on a 67½.

No, the 67.5 have different plates from all other years & the 1.6L plate is different from the 2L.

Looks like there are several of us putting their 67.5 back together! We need to keep each other informed.

If you need a shifter plate JT makes repros for 66-67 and 67.5. Are they inexpensive, no. Are they reasonable, yes. Consider the effort to make repros and IF you could find an original 67.5 plate it ain't gonna be cheap. I had mine powder coated along with dash and had them tape off the ridge so it would still be silver.

Hi Gang.

I'm another guy trying to put together a 67.5. Mine is a 1600, and I'm having a stroker built and will be putting in a 5 speed. It's a slow go, the car is 500 miles away, so I've been working on the little parts I can do remotely.

I bought a 5 speed plate from JT, and it's really nice. Thinner gauge than the original, but should do the trick.

I just got both back from the powder coater, so I took a photo of them side by side if it helps at all. Original on the left.

They weren't supposed to powder coat my original, I gave it to them simply as a sample for masking... but they turned out awesome.

Don't know what to do with my original, I guess just sell it at some point when I need to recoup some costs.

If anyone would like measurements, I'm happy to do so.

Good luck all!

Peter, Thanks. They are very different aren't they. Looks like JT will be getting some money from me after the holidays. I finished (haha) my 67.5 a couple years ago but I am going to do the 5 speed swap this winter.
Pat and Curtis Thanks to you too.

From my dealings, JT is very fair, and I truly believe he wants the best for all of us Roadster Folk.

He is candid, generous, and outspoken when sharing his vast experience.

In my humble, newbie opinion, it's well worth supporting the really dedicated guys like Jim.

Can someone tell me about the cutout in the 67.5 and newer. The 66-67 have a U shaped stamped sheet metal brace in the tunnel a little ways in front of the shifter hole. When you cut the tunnel out for a 5 speed the brace is right there at the front of the hole.

I've seen that people cut a notch in it when putting in a 5 speed so the shifter will clear. I had to remove my engine and 5 speed today which I had in the frame before I put the body on. And did I ever find out why they notch it. The 5 speed will not clear the brace without twisting it to the side and it is just not possible to turn the engine enough. I didn't want cut the brace at this time so I unbolted the transmission and got it all out.

So what I want to know is do the newer cars have a brace in the tunnel?
