I have a 1968.5 2000. The steering box has slack and after adjusting it is hard to steer. I would like to rebuild the box. Has anyone ever rebuilt their box? If so where do you get parts and what problems will I run into.

I gave my steering box and idler to a local transmission guru and he reconditioned it all for me.
Some shafts were metal sprayed and bushes were honed to suit.
I recommend a specialist to do the work since they can match the parts up to give you an "as new" part :)

You may have over tightened the adjuster, causing binding. There's gonna be some slop based on design, with the later boxes being far better I hear, but requiring a complete system to work. Dean (datsunparts.com, vendor) has complete kits for both box and idler.

I'd like more info on the z build for the box. Got a link?
