Replacement Header

Hi all,

I have now removed my engine and in the process of detailing and replacing all my gaskets etc. I noticed the exhaust manifold / header is rusty but still in good working order. Any advice whether I should replace it for a new coated one or should I seek to have it coated? Will there be any performance increase with a new header over the original in the 2.0l U20?

Most shops will not coat a used header as it is contaminated with exhaust dirt internally. if it is still solid, re use until it fails.

just paint it with some high temp paint, if you have access to sand blasting - then use that first!

Just make sure the damn thing isn't cracked anywhere. I was never able to get mine to weld up for the long term, and swapped to a header. The swap does require an exhaust shop as the collector etc is different than stock. Will probably morph into a brand new exhaust if you go that route!

Exactly, WHAT header?

Earlier 'stock' ones had a bracket that bolted to the alternator/motor mount bracket - rarely replaced, 'cos it's a pain/

In any case, STRONGLY suggest getting a 'flex' connex between header and exhaust pipe. Takes up the damaging tension from engine rotation.
