Jimmy's Picnic
Jimmy's Picninc is coming up October 9th. Check out http://jimmyspicnic.com for more details. Jimmy's is a great show, lots to see for every taste, from old school to new school. Last year we had 6 or 8 roadsters and 2 510's. Fred Katz is planning on getting there at 8 to reserve spots for 6 or more Datsuns. I'll be there around 8 myself, though I'll have to leave about 11.
Anybody else think they might make it? I think if we had an idea of how any cars might show up, we can reserve the space.

I found this pic while going through my few pics from Jimmy's Picnic, and wanted to share the mirror finish of black. That's Fred Katzes car in the rear fender

Pics/cars like that that sucker people into black paint jobs. Only -LATER- do they realize how much work it is to keep it nice. Reminds me of the joke:
Dear Mom,
I joined the Navy because they had nice, clean ships. Now I know why.
Love, Son
Seriously, very nice....

Ken, great to hear that you're going to Jimmy's Show! I usually arrive between 7:30 to 8:00 am. There's lots of space available until 8. After 8, lots of cars start coming and traffic backs up at the entrance area. After 8:30 am, it's a zoo, starting to be crowded getting in and trying to maneuver your car to see where your friends are. After 9:00, real tough but have patience driving the corridors where people are walking.
We usually try to set up in a center row anywhere between halfway to 2/3rds of the way into the meadow, near the BBQ pits. The BBQ pits are impossible to get unless someone grabs them before 7:00 am - usually best to leave them to the larger established car groups.
I've only heard from a few folks so far, hope we have more than a few roadsters. I miss seeing everyone, as me and Annie missed both big shows this year.

Boy, what a sad showing of Roadsters. Me and Datster were the only roadsters there, and Ken left before I remembered to take a few pics. A great variety of other cars, as usual. Roadsters turned out to be outnumbered by bluebirds. In the Datsun ranks, there were 2 bluebirds, 2 510's, 2 Roadsters and 64 pick-up.
I did meet about 15 people that had roadsters at one time or another, and all the Datsuns were a very welcomed diversity in the sea of American Iron.
I got a couple nice pics of the truck, but for some reason my image sharing site screws it up everytime I upload it. If you want to see 'em, let me know and I'll email 'em direct.

I know the feeling. I rode shotgun w/ Greg Burrows in his 67.5 2L (top down and no heater) on the DatsunsNW "Cruise Your Ash Off" run to Mount St. Helens on Oct 7th. There were 2 other 2-liters, but the majority was dimes. Nothing wrong with dimes -- just wanted more roadsters!
Nice Bluebirds! Do you have contact info on the blue one's owner? A friend wants that paint code.
There's hints of the 320 pickup (L or NL?) in your pics to indicate another nice Dat.

The blue RL411 is owned by none other than the 'other' Pete from the Early Datsun List.
Joe...Sorry I couldn't make it out this year. I had tons of family in-town this weekend, and just couldn't attend. Word is my 1966 KA24DE is ready for the road as of today!
Hopefully she'll be zooming around NorCal in the coming weeks..

Sorry we couldn't make it this year, only the 2nd time I missed it in the last 8 years. Had problems trying to get my roadster together, and some problems with a neighbor botched all attempts to fix the roadster problems on Saturday. Real bad day.
But at least you guys got to go and have some fun, and see all the other cars. I miss seeing you guys. I've got carburetor and wiring problems to fix. I managed to get the car running (horribly), pulled it into the garage Saturday night, got out and slipped in a pool of gasoline. Oops, carbs definitely need more work. Gave up on trying to get it to the show. The garage door stayed open all night to air out the gas.
Next year my roadster will definitely be back!

That's Bluebie? Joe's pic looks better than the pics in the EarlyDatsun list folder.datsun65 wrote:The blue RL411 is owned by none other than the 'other' Pete from the Early Datsun List.

Yeah Pete,
There is a '64 320, don't know if it's a L or NL, don't know the difference. I have a few good pics of it, but can't post 'em. They don't upload right to photobucket.
Fred, sorry we missed you. I'm sure you tried all that was reasonable to get the old girl running, sometimes it just doesn't work out. But we'll do it again next year.
I'd like to try to get more people to come to this show, I'd be happy to host a big club style BBQ, if we could get enough people to make it worthwhile.

The L is a standard pickup w/ the cab and bed separate. The NL has the integrated cab/body kinda like a Chevy El Camino or the older Chevy Cameo. I believe only 1000 of the NL's were produced and/or made it to the USA.JoeK wrote:Yeah Pete,
