I think it's safe to say the appearance would be more like a standard silicone hose as shown below. You can still see the spiral wraps but they are less noticeable with the shiny finish.

Same question. Shiny no problem, but that looks like it's wrapped with electrical tape.

Shiny and durable for me as well. This is one of those items you will install and forget. It is not something you will need to be removing and reinstalling a bunch of times.

The spiral wrap is not electrical tape. In the photos above , the off the shelf silicone elbows are only taped together at the joints to build a prototype. They manufacture silicone hoses by spiral wrapping fabric & resin around a steel mold with a release agent. The whole thing including the tooling is heated to vulcanize it. Then the product is slipped off of the tool and the ends trimmed square. Please Google silicon elbows and you see what all of the silicone turbo stuff looks like. I promise I am not selling a hose made from electrical tape.

Steve

Sorry. Didn't mean to infer that the hose was made from electrical tape. Just commenting that the surface finish wasn't smooth. Didn't realize the prototype was multiple pieces taped together.

Just wanted to confirm that the final product will be smooth finish.

Edit: Just saw your reply before mine.

Just to be clear - The hose will not have a perfectly smooth finish like a rubber hose. You will see indications of the spiral wrapped fabric. But the fabric will be covered with resin before vulcanizing. The photo below is a portion of a standard silicone elbow that is not wrapped with any electrical tape. You can see, and feel the spiral nature of the hose, not perfectly smooth like a factory rubber radiator hose.

I hope this helps,
Steve

I am still all in as smooth or a slight texture really does not matter to me. Not something you can really see that well after the engine bay is filled up any way.

I think I have the dilemma solved. I'll order them shiny since I'm convinced that is a more durable product. I took one of my shiny off the shelf elbows and hit it in the blast cabinet briefly to put a matte finish on it. Best of both worlds- still has the durability, but can be made dull to more simulate the OEM rubber hose. Still will have spiral wraps no matter what we do however. So you'll get them shiny and you can decide to make it matte or not.

Steve

Update -

I revised the drawing for the finish on the OD and revised the Purchase Order. Both have been sent to the Manufacturer, and I have given them 1st part approval. We're off and running!

Steve

If it is shiny, I may not be interested. I would prefer a natural matte rubber like the original.

All Right, All Right, All Right boys and girls! Santa just showed up in a big brown sleigh with a big box of snakes! I'll do some inspection, then start to send out Paypal invoices. When I receive your Paypal, I'll get your cowl drain hose popped in the mail. I have a pretty good bunch of orders to fill so I'll probably start slow at first to make sure I'm not screwing things up. At first glance, they look purty. :D

Thanks for your patience.

Steve

Here is a sample of what the Paypal invoice will look like. The Batch Invoicing features in Paypal are pretty bad so I had to do some work arounds. Batch invoicing only allows for a quantity of 1 so I had to put the quantity in the description field and do all of the math in the total column. Anyway, It'll work. See the pic. This is what you should see when you click the invoice link Paypal will e-mail to you.
