Steve, what's your guestimate on the hp your stroker will produce when all said and done?

A well built 1800 like this with cam, compression bump and good carburetion should be in the 125-130 range

Are you doing LW flywheel? If not do yourself a favour and put one in, the difference is night and day the car feels much livelier and the fun factor is increased tenfold

I think Steve numbers are about right, it might make as much as 135. However that said I never worry about the total HP output, I prefer to focus on the the drivability of the engine. Most people pushing a sports car hard seldom get to full RPM more than 10% of the time. So over the years I found better power through out the RPM range is best. Dave

I imagine that will work much better than the aluminum one I had on. Had to rev it a lot more to get going, no inertial energy.

So interesting I was tuning on a 1750 Rebello engine today. A little flat on acceleration when we started but I was very pleased with the outcome. The 1750 has 44PHH’s, a bit over sized on the carburetors but managed to make it work pretty well. The engine loves to rev like crazy, that’s a certainty.

Hey Steve,...great updates on your build progress ! Do you have an idea on the weight of your lightened flywheel, or any other pertinent info, and who / where you had the flywheel lightening work done ?

Sorry, do not recall what the final weight was after lightening. I thought it was in the build thread. Main Machine 2803 Main Ave Concord, CA (925) 685-2828 is whom did the lightening per David Premo's directions. Found the weight way earlier in the thread. Stock is 24 lb. My fly wheel comes in at 16.5 Lbs. That is 7.5 lbs he removed. Not bad.

That should be fine Steve. For the 1840 your crank rotating mass is WAY lighter than the 5main and especially U20 assembly. The 1840 won't have a ton of torque, but as Dave points out will be very rev happy due to the light weight. A race FW is not needed or desirable. I know you aren't 18 years old...but keep in mind the poor crank oiling system of the R/H engines. If that is all stock, even with a 2L oil pump, life over 6k is risky at best- they tend to kill the #2or3 rod bearing and a rod goes through the block. Under 5500, they will zip along for years. Cannot believe it has been since April 2021 since I last posted on my 66 build. We got really busy the end of 2020. Sold a house in California to buy a winter home in Texas closer to my sister. Made several California trips to haul stuff back to storage in Texas. January 2021 moved into our new Texas home. No more wintering in California. The week we moved in Texas had one of the biggest snow storms in years that lasted for a week. Quite unusual for this neck of the woods. I had a concrete slab poured for a 32 x 48 shop. I built a pole building in Knoxville years ago using 6x6 posts. Pretty standard up there. The real problem is getting straight 6x6's. High dollar pole barn kits use laminated posts that are straight as an arrow. I decided I would try an all metal building for this build. You would think it would be one big erector kit but it has had its issues as well. The shell is all up and closed in. Still need to seal and finish the floor. Frame interior walls so we can pull lots of wire and sheet with OSB. The OSB will have to wait as the price of a sheet is ridiculous right now. Hope to get it done in the next couple of months so I can haul my projects south to get them finished. A couple of pictures of the project.

What I find most interesting, is that even though you are clearly busier than a one-armed picture hanger, you still find the time to somehow prioritize the updating and maintenance of this site with everything else that’s going on (for which I am thankful).

Pretty sure that’s an increasingly rare quality.

12 foot ceilings. I purchased a 2 post lift as i always wanted one. No HVAC. It gets warm during the summer but cools off at night. Winters aren't normally too cold. I have a cargo trailer full of equipment. Will fill up pretty quickly. My brother and I built it in the last 2 months. North East Texas is fairly mild.
