1600 Squeaking

It sounds like the type of squeaking you hear when belts squeak, but it doesn't seem to be coming from the belt. I haven't been able to isolate the squeak though. Anyone have any ideas what it might be?

Smog plugs on smog heads are known to chirp/squeak.

The shop trick is to slack the belt and see if sound changes or goes away, for a short time ( a few minutes) the car isn’t going to discharge or overheat).
If it stops and the inside of the belt does not look polished, then an alt bearing might be going bad.
Hope it is not your water pump singing it’s last verse...

If you have the smog head, '68 on, and the tubes are not hooked up, and there are plugs in the holes, but they are not the correct ones, the exhaust flowing by the inner holes will make a chirping sound. You can eliminate the belt by just spraying some water on it while it is running. If the squeak is coming from the belt the water will stop it for a few seconds.
