I know the smog stuff has been removed, I started reading about the smog vs non-smog distributors. I haven't verified what I have, but I would assume I have the smog unit.
From one of my earlier post.
"timing was way off, set at nearly 25* btdc, I set it back to 16* btdc"
Wondered if you had verified if you had a smog distributor which has different timing settings than the non smog. Can affect running and other things.
Linda
Linda, I haven't verified it yet, but it's been running very hot at idle ever since I adjusted the timing. So, when I get the fuel pump on this weekend and hopefully running, I'll take the timing back up and see if it runs cooler and go from there.

The move is done, got 2 of my cars to the new house. Now I can start working on the roadster again. First thing I noticed pulling it off the trailer is brake fluid leaking out of the rear wheel cylinder, and the gas gauge stopped working again.

Pretty much felt like the Beverly Hillbillies with all in tow.

Regarding my engine temps, today I put a camera in the top of the radiator to see what I might see. To my surprise it actually looked pretty clean across the top of the vent tubes. However I was not able to see down the tubes. Temp gauge still reads 220-240, my temp gun only reads about 170 across the head and about 200 on the head closest to the temp sender.

I also pulled the new thermostat out for shits and giggles with no real change. Both hoses are warm/hot and coolant is flowing through the top hose, ask me how I know. Anyway, I think I have good flow.

So, I'm thinking it's either sending unit or the gauge itself.

I'm also thinking of installing an aftermarket mechanical gauge to compare the stock gauge, so for those of you that have aftermarket gauges, where did you install the sending unit for it.

Thanks

Installed this one. I know it’s on the wrong side of the Tstat but it follows the temp gage and it’s a quick reference. Also like the old hot rod tone to it.

I like that, and it's a good use of the fitting. Thanks for posting, I may do that.

Yes, that does look good, what about a location on the 1600?

Where did you find the Guage, and what did you need to do to adapt it in? Thanks!

I'm thinking you would replace the current temperature sensor with a T-fitting for both the temperature sensor and a gauge. Key thing would be not making it look clunky. Probably have to add a bracket to support the gauge, too. Functional? Yes. Nice to look at? Maybe not so much.

It’s been a while since I bought it. I'll take more pictures later

Thank you! Long ago I replaced my housing with one that has the fitting like above as my other had cracked. I don't completely trust my temp Guage, at least in the past. I have a new sensor in it so maybe it will read closer to what my IR temp gun would say, but I like the idea of a mechanical Guage as a back up.

Do you think it can be done on a 1600, kind of tight quarters with the bypass hose and exhaust manifold. I'll have to take a look at it tonight to see if there is enough room to add additional fittings.

Good news is, I fixed the fuel gauge, turns out I'm not getting a solid connection at the sender. A little wiggle of the wire for now and it's good.
