I went in hearing lots of good things about this place. Person named Sal assisted me. I told him my leaf springs are sagging and I would like them re-arched. He inspected my car, took some measurements. Commented that there is no suspension travel, either the shocks are too long or the springs are flat. More measurements... agreed on 2” lift to the springs, no bushings since he wouldnt have them in stock.

I was quoted 550$... i asked again if he was re-arching them or building new ones. re-arched.. maybe add a leaf, he said. Of course I was shocked at the price. I understood the range of prices could be $100-250.. depending who and where. Some trucks can be upward in the 500-900$, big rigs or horse drawn buggies?

I told him I will think about it. He quickly blame the president for steel tariffs. The tariffs were not active yet.. either way, re-arching wouldn’t need new materials unless you added a leaf.

Im not sure what to think... i was pretty sure he was taking me for a ride. Either way.. if thats what it really costs, buying new reproduction, getting decent used springs, or even flexforms built would be more cost effective alternative. I really didnt have any recent price quotes to compare. A little fustrated

I am thinking about Flexform springs, I have a new set of "flat" comp springs.

John and I re-arched the springs on his car. We used my Harbor Freight shop press. It was a bit fiddly and time consuming but not rocket science. Labor is where the money is. $75-$100 an hour is not out of line. A proper disassembly, re-arch, clean, reassembly will take several hours. $550 seems a bit high. It might have been their "We are buried in work and really don't want to do it." price.

You are right tariffs have nothing to do with this..... Re-arch typically doesn’t include new steel.....run away....

Jc whitney still has some 610 pu helper leaf that work $30

i thought about using helper springs for the time being.. Since flexforms lead times are 6 weeks out. I emailed them shortly after my visit to Atlas. 435$ + shipping. I would rather upgrade parts and improve handling than repair older parts. Although these parts are getting more rare. Can’t imagine saggy springs being high in demand.

FlexForm Group buy anyone? How does this work again?!? lol

How are the comps?
might be great for smooth roads and canyon carving. Ive driven some really low cars with stiff suspensions, i dont really mind for a weekend car but not for a daily driver.

Comp spring are great if your seat has extra firm straps. At least they are necessary if you are FAT.....LOL
The problem is a sudden dip or change in paving level tends to send the car into the air.
She will be a little white knuckle until you get control. If you hit them straight, it no problem.

Love my Flex forms. Do be aware that you will need to modify a few things, or at least I did several years ago... longer u bolts, lowering blocks (if comp springs up front), honing their mount to accept the stock front bushing. The FF springs are much lighter. I considered re-arching my comps but was told it would not last. Bilsteins or Koni for shocks man! I personally was not happy with KYB gas adjusts and the FFs.

im in la.. not sure if shipping out is an issue, perhaps someone more central would be ideal. i dont mind doing drop off within 20 miles of dtla. perhaps.. we can do hand offs to each other traveling n such. Ill start another tread apon hearing back from Flexform guys, Mark Nielson. Thanks

im gonna email flex form to check if they can do group pricing again and check for minimal numbers.

To be fair, is this really a "Thread of Shame" or should it be moved to the Tech section? Should a new thread be started regarding a Flex Form group buy since the current Subject is something else?
