Front to Rear Brake Line Connection

I splurged and purchased Classic Tubing stainless steel brake lines (DA1001-SS) for my '67 1600, which includes 8 lines. A few tweaks will be necessary, otherwise everything looks good compared to the original tubing except for the shorter front to rear piece. The female connector is different.

There are two lines. The first one (the longer one) runs from the distribution manifold on the firewall down and to the rear where it joins with a shorter piece. Here's a pic of where these two lines connect:

Here are two pics of the female connection on the original piece and the Classic Tubing piece:

  • Did this change in '68?
  • Anyone else run into this?
  • If yes, did you have a workaround, or do I need to contact Classic Tubing and have them redo the line?
Thanks,

I think they originally had a male to male SAE flare fitting. I have extras somewhere if you can't find them ill dig them out. Almost all my spare parts came from 68 or 69 models, so Classic may have based it on that year.

The two lines making up the fuel run use the same bell-shaped end fitting and join using a double-male adapte, however, the first, longer brake line has regular male flare nut.

Guess I can find an adapter, but then it won't "lock" into the frame bracket. :smt013

Anyone have a pic of this on a 68-70?

You didn't lose the ferrule did you?

Oh, I'm sure it's around here somewhere....maybe.... Luckily, I have a parts car! :smt003

However, if I go with an adapter, then the ferrule isn't needed, right?

The original needs the infernal ferrule - it looks like Classic Tube eliminated the need for that. I had to eliminate the ferrule on mine, because it fell into a black hole and I could not find a suitable replacement.

All you had to do was to let me know Tom...

I didn't want to wait around for mail/shipping and just knocked it out. Kind of a strange design anyway.

I agree. It is odd.

How did you eliminate it?

Replaced the ends with make/female and an in-line straight connector I believe, it’s been a few years. Inline connector through the body mount and lines connected on either side.

So, like this?

FRONT> Line 1 male --- double-female inline straight connector --- male\female adapter---Line 2 female <REAR
  • Is the inline connector tight in the body mount?
  • Any way you could provide a pic?

I can't get a picture until this weekend, and then I have to get my fat butt under there!
I think, AGAIN, THINK, I used a double male end from Firewall to connector, and then another male to male to go from the connector to the Flexible brake hose. That's' why I think I used the inline female/female connector referenced above. I replaced all the lines with new, and where the lengths were right I used preformed and terminated lines, or I made my own line and my own connectors to fit. I had a thread on here somewhere making all the lines, as I did quite a lot to reduce the spaghetti on the firewall.
