The 3/8 x 24TPI flange nut will screw into the 10mm x 1mm thread female fitting because its 9.525 mm 25.4 TPI, but its not correct and only part of the threads are engauged between the two.

They sometimes seal the first time, usually not the second.

IMHO always use the adaptor.

Thanks for the information. I'll look for the adapter.

Does this look like the correct adapter?

Disregard this link. It is the wrong size. It is M10x1.25 instead of M10x1.0. The NAPA part that fj20 listed is the correct part.

I just started to install 510 wheel cylinders on my 67. Napa part # 37274. The thread is 10mm 1.0 (not 1.25), I tested it with a bolt. I think the adapter required is a 3/8-24 female flare to a 10mm-1.0 male inverted flare. I have yet to find this. I think the Napa part Copilot listed (Balkamp BK 6413312) almost correct. The female part is an inverted flare, not a flare. This may work because it will seal to a point but I would be worried about long term since it would create an inverted flair mating up to an inverted flair. Am I missing something here? FYI, the Speedbleeder for the 510 wheel cylinder is SB7100s.

I don't believe a correct adapter has ever been identified, not that it may not exist. Curtis posted this eBay link a few weeks back.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/125992095747?m ... media=COPY

Custom made with outboard metric fittings, inboard SAE so you can use cheap Datsun 510 wheel cylinders. Of course you could take your original brake lines to a Brake shop and ask them to build the same setup I have no experience doing this so I have no idea if you could save some money doing so.

My only concern with this eBay listing is that there are only photos of the lines laid out on an old rusty axle and not actually attached to wheel cylinders. I'd be a lot more comfortable purchasing them knowing they were made to the correct length. The seller doesn't accept returns, but if they don't function then the item doesn't meet the listing terms for no returns and eBay should back you up if the seller isn't cooperative.

First....READ THIS...
https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/docum ... =TECH00136

That all being explained....the spare Beck Arnley 072-2538, 13/16" rear brake cylinders (for the Datsun 510 ) that I have, but never actually installed have a threaded hole (female) with a CONVEX "nipple" down inside of it, that would mate up to either the flared, CONCAVE end of a brake line OR adapter fitting. The end of the adapter fitting that screws into the wheel cylinder will be male, with a CONCAVE face. The other end of the same adapter fitting will be female, with a CONVEX "nipple" down inside of it (just like found in the brake cylinder itself), to mate up to the CONCAVE end of a brake line, and receive the male, brake line nut...I can take pics to show, if needed, but hopefully my explanation will help...

Part numbers for the brass adapter fitting vary....I bought mine at Advance Auto Parts # 327851, other parts numbers from NAPA, etc. could be different, which is why I thought a detailed, physical description might be useful...

Mike,

Thanks for the write up. If I'm understanding correctly, the Advance Auto Parts number you provided looks like it is convex male. Would that not work as the wheel cylinder is also convex? Link below.

You are correct...that part they show would not work, their picture is wrong for this part....here is a pic I just took of the cylinder, and the male end of the adapter, which is CONCAVE :

Most excellent, you have solved this issue! Maybe Steve should add it to the Wiki. With the adapter you effectively have added a small amount to the length of the hard lines. Your thoughts if that might be a fit issue?

Thank!

I haven't actually mounted these 510 cylinders and their adapters, I bought them for spares a long time ago. I would think that the existing brake line could be bent in such a way, to take up the short amount of slack. I also think someone pointed out that their might be some kind of interference with the leaf spring brackets though...in either case, if and when the time comes, I would probably make up my own rear brake lines using metric nuts for the cylinder ends. With the exception of the front caliper brake lines, I have made up, replaced, and have put over 10,000 miles on all of the other brake lines in my car.

This thread addresses the interference issue. I think you are golden.
