Shroud hitting alternator

Hi everyone, I put a 1970 1600 motor in my 1967 1600 and I'm sure you've noticed from my previous posts, it has been one problem after another! Now for my next problem, the 70 motor has a bottom pulley that is cone shaped and protrudes out further than the 67 does, so we added some spacers to the alternator and fan so the belt would line up but now when we went to put the radiator in, the shroud hits the alternator. At this point I am just frustrated and don't know what to do!! does anybody have an idea of what to do? The pic shows the spacers and how far out the alternator and fan is

I have the metric block in my 66. You need to lose the spacers and use the pulley, fan shroud, alternator, alternator mount, etc. from the original motor.

Others may have a different opinion but I have no problems with mine. Use the motor and get rid of all the other stuff. Just have to use metric fasteners on the block.

Totally agree with Curtis - sorry to say you are doing all of it backwards. Use the 67 Crank Pulley, 67 WP w/o 1" spacer, 67 Alt+mount not modified, 67 WP pulley&FAN.All this bolts on-no mods, no drama.

That alt rig as shown would likely fail somewhere on the freeway anyway-suggest you avoid that.

ok..Next question, how do I pull the bottom pulley off, we tried that and the pulley kept spinning like when we were trying to find TDC

Put the car in gear and have someone stand on the brakes while you loosen the nut.

I would put it in first gear, put on the parking brake, block the tires and use a big breaker bar on the pulley nut. Not sure you can get at it with an impact wrench with the motor in the car.

Anyone else?
