Differential bearing numbers/sizes

Post by ppeters914 »

Anyone have the actual differential bearing numbers/sizes? Not referring to the Part Numbers, which are readily available:
differential.PNG
#39: 40210-85000: BEARING-SIDE
#50: 38120-61000: BEARING-DRIVE PINION, REAR
#78: 38140-61000: BEARING-DRIVE PINION, FRONT

Clear enough Mr Peter H.
Mr Pete P. is looking for the inner/outer/depth measurements for the bearings.

Bearings have sizes, which are on the race and bearing along with manufacturer and country of origin. For example:

Inner wheel bearing: 30206
Outer wheel bearing: 30204

Normally, it's easy. Just disassemble, clean, and read. However, I don't want to disassemble the differential before taking it to have it rebuilt.

Tried to take pictures, but the numbers wash out. Here's an image from the internet:
bearing.png
In this case, the bearing number/size is L44643.

That help?

I just wondered why, since surely the part numbers point to a correct substutute if not OEM!

The L44643 is just some trailer wheel bearing pic I found on the internet so I could show you what I'm looking for. Not for Datsun.

The Nissan part numbers do not point to a substitute, and you better be sitting down before you look at the Nissan price. :Tosser:

Googling the part numbers only finds those part numbers. The only ones at a reasonable cost were the side bearings (eBay seller). The pinion bearings are still pricey.

That's why I wanted the bearing number.....so I can check for substitutes like I did with the wheel bearings. Sometimes it's nice and quick to go to local bearing supplier. Surprised no one has asked before.

Front (small) and rear (large) pinion bearings covered, but not the side ones. Searching RockAuto with Nissan P/N 40210-85000 (thanks, Phil!), I found:
TIMKEN 30208M {Click Info Button for Alternate/OEM Part Numbers} Wheel Race; 1.5748 Cone Bore; 0.7087 Cone Width; 3.1496 Cup Outer Diam; 0.6299 Cup Width
Category: Differential Bearing
There's also BECK/ARNLEY 0513079 and SKF BR30208 listed there.

Due to these bearings creating a work stoppage, I just ordered them from one of our wonderful roadster vendors rather than deal with multiple sources. If there is a next time, I'll plan accordingly.

I'll ask the repair shop for the old bearings for comparison.
