How to fold the top down?

Post by anthonymckay »

Hi all, new roadster owner as of last weekend. Stopped today on the way home from work to fill up with gas in the roadster, and decided I'd put the top down and enjoy the drive home. Spent about 20 minutes trying to figure out how to fold it down in such a way that I could get the cover flap pulled over it and snapped. I failed. No matter how I tried I couldn't get enough slack in the cover to get it to wrap up around the folded top and snapped down. I looked around online and haven't found anything. Could someone make a video and post a link perhaps? I found one post trying to describe it, but a video demonstration would really be ideal. Thanks!

Somebody posted a step by step tutorial a couple of years ago, but I don't recall who. Maybe someone with a memory will provide a link. Making a video and adding it to the tech-wiki would be a great idea. Unfortunately I threw my original top away last week. Amazing how little a near 50 year old rotted top weighs :D

Anthony,
This is a great question many of us had to figure out at some point of ownership!

I think I'm understanding that you were able to fold the top down, but not get the cover to snap in place over it? Heat is your friend here, it will help the material stretch.

Pictorials and instructions (even from the owner's manual!) are found here:

Regardless of how you do it, and it can be a challenge, but good to have a clean towel/fabric to cover the plastic windows to avoid scratches.

So, I can get it to the point in that photo... it's the part right after that that I can't figure out. what should be folding where to get it to all compactly fit underneath the cover? Hopefully someone can make a video of their top being folded away, would be very helpful for those of us trying to figure this out. :)
