2018 Solvang South to North

Post by raylim »

Would any of you like to join me and Peter to caravan on the way up to Solvang on Friday meeting around 10:00-10:30 a.m. in the Woodland Hills Area (Bowlero off Woodlake exit) and grabbing lunch somewhere between? I've heard that in the past this was the popular meeting place before heading up north. We're thinking of taking some side roads than staying entirely on the 101 if possible.
Hope to see you there!

The Friday event is totally worth it, especially if it is your first time attending! It's held in an amazing venue and filled with roadster owners (and their cars).
The actual car show (Saturday) goes by way to quickly so enjoy Friday!

Simon,
You can camp with other Roadster owners at Flying Flags, just down the road outside of town. They have showers, a pool wifi.
So there is always a last min place to stay.

Edit: Looks like tent sites only avail after May 1st due to remodeling

Linda,
I did not call, but from their web site it looks as if Flying flags is an RV Park without camp sites.
Tried to reserve a site online with no luck.....I might be down the road at Gaviota State Park

Also Lake Cachuma, a short scenic drive outside of town, you pass it if you take the great San Marcos pass route into Solvang:

Don't know if this info is on the show website, should be.

Flying Flags is really becoming a upscale RV park now. Most of the open grass field for tent camping have been converted to RV sites. On the plus side it is just across the street from the Friday night pre-show. Cachuma is a nice county park and just a 15 min drive from the show. There are many open sites this time of the year and reasonably priced compared to the other. Very relaxed and open campground. It's our favorite now.

I reserved camp site #3 in Gaviota State Park. Its down the road at bottom of the hill before the rest stop on 101 headed to Buellton.

Hi Simon,
Not exactly set in stone but we're planning on leaving from the Bowlero off of Woodlake & 101 in Woodland Hills around 10-10:30 a.m. on Friday.
Looks like we may have about four roadsters...so far!

I live in Camarillo right off the 101. Would love to join you for the ride north on Friday morning. I have a room booked at Pea Soup Andersen in Buellton for Fri/Sat nights. It’s also block from Flying Flags and Fri night museum. 27th is my wife’s birthday so she’s hitching a ride with a friend for two nights in Avila Beach for our usual tennis outing which conflicts this year with Solvang. I’d rather do Solvang this year.
If you could stop in Camarillo I could either meet you at the stop and ride just south of 101/Las Posas Road exit or I could invite you all for a short rest stop at my house on 1-3/4 acres with home vineyard/winery, pool, bocce, indoor and outdoor shuffleboard, ping pong etc. and 5 bathrooms. Perhaps we could have a future SoCalDatsun Sat or Sun fun day/drive at my house— check it out. 226 Valley Vista Drive — easy 1 mile from 101/ Las Posas exit.
Thanks

Hey Al,
Thank you for your generosity. It's not exactly set who is joining us on the ride up but if the group would like to take a detour we'll definitely be in touch.

Hi Ray

Denice and I are looking for a group leaving Orange County on Friday, haven't heard of anyone yet, so... We'd love to meet up with you guys Friday morning if you're still open to one more car. Looks like lots of twisty canyon roads leading out to Hwy 1 :) - then off to 101. or stay on the 101 and hit the breakfast café off Carmen and the 101. We're game for any route.
