Steps to installing the Pertronix 1741 ignitor and their recommended 3-ohm coil.
~Enjoy!
Disconnect negative battery cable. Rotate crank until Cylinder 1 is at TDC (Top Dead Center). Remove Cap and inspect for cracks or abnormalities Proper alignment of rotor would be at 11:00 Note wires going to the coil (connection to positive and connection to negative) Remove Rotor Remove Points with the two screws Install Pertronix ignitor with supplied screws (don't forget to reattach ground wire!) Install the cover, align the notch over the wires and don't forget the rotor! Install the Pertonix Coil Flame Thrower (3 Ohms) Connect the red wire from the ignitor to the positive terminal of the coil and connect the black wire to the negative terminal of the coil Connect the wires (for my 1970 the white/yellow & black/white to positive) Keep the wires (not being used) wrapped together in case you have to reattached them if the ignitor fails. Make sure you save all your old parts and keep it with the car just in case the pertronix fail Install a wire loom wrap to keep wires tidy. Install Cap and coil wire. Turn vehicle on and set timing back to factory specs Coil can be mounted vertically (recommended to keep main windings cool from oil within the coil) Or having the terminals at 9:00 and 3:00 position. This was the temp reading of my coil after running for 20 minutes. Please let me know if I"m missing something. I hope this was comprehensive enough!
