how much should I offer?

Post by nking79 »

How much should I offer for the Datsun below? Its been sitting for 5 years, but starts. The body has little rust, but seems a little banged up. Its missing the front bumper, the letters that spell out Datsun on the hood and mirrors. The passenger door does not open from the outside. Front right tire is flat. Missing lock from trunk. Odd spot on windshield. Interior is in fair condition.

Keep in mind that the car is very dusty and there is saw dust on the front of the car that comes right off. My guess is there is more rust underneath, but I couldn't see in the dark garage.

The asking price is $2500, but I know its not worth that much.

Keep looking...

Compare to the cars on eBay right now for an idea of what a little money will buy compared to the $$$! that car would require.

I'd offer $100. It's thrashed and not to mention it's a late model car with what looks like a 1500 engine in it.

Holes through the body in trunk and bad fender rust.

Anybody think this is good for anything other than parts ?

Looks like a bit of a "mismash" already, lots of rust. Would anybody consider restoring this car ? Even if it was free ?

Just my opinion, but $2500 ? Not from me.

nking79, keep looking , your car is out there, but this ain't it.

Geez, how does a garaged car rust that badly? Dave's being generous on the $500. It's gonna take several grand to bring that car back. I'd pass....

Say, didn't you have a '68 or '69 that was in better shape w/ a newly rebuilt engine? IIRC, there was a lot of discussion regarding your engine rebuilders' knowledge (or lack of) regarding roadster motors.

That isn't a 1500. It appears to be an H20 - the same thing as a stroked 1600. The car does have it's share of issues, but I have seen much worse. How much to offer depends on what you want from it, and how bad you want it. If the brakes work such that it is a driver, I could see it going for $1500 or so. Should be fun with that engine!

Unless the 1500's came with a stamped steel valve cover, that looks like an H20

I have a fully restored engine from a 1600. I'm looking for a car to drop the engine into - this obviously is not the best of choices for my goal. What interests me the most about this is the body of the car being in a better condition than mine. I would still end up spending another fortune on mechanical work and cosmetic work.

DON'T BUY IT.....

These cars have enough issues without inheriting someones PROBLEMS...

There will be more just hold on to your money..

I do like the dashpad.

Prospective Buyer!

Don't do it! other than stripping the car for parts, it looks it's ready for the crusher myself.

I bought a much nicer running 68 2000 for $500. The two 1600's that I have in better condition than that were both free. (Tetanus and Rusty) I would offer to haul it away for $25 and if he scoffs then agree to haul it for free.

No!! Not another one to the crusher! It can be saved! The H20 is interesting!! Someone out there interested in a roadster project should jump on that... its a real project.

Engine sure looks like an h20 to me...

Here is a pic of my old H20 engine:

About the rest of the car...it is really rough. For similar money, you can purchase a car out west and have it shiiped to NY. You'd end up with better deal in both the short, and long run.

If there are people willing to pay $1500 for that car...Maybe these cars are worth a hell of a lot more than I thought!
