that seems right given the HP numbers. Remind me...do you have an LSD?
btw, are you a gator grad? I saw you post a link from Circa.ufl.edu. I graduated in '01...and I'm actually out in the SF bay area (...to me, the "other" bay area since I live in Tampa) fairly often since my company is HQ'd out in Redwood City.

Yes someone took out a power pole someplace. I didn't run because I came over after work and the helmet and top where still at the house. I got over there about 5:45 or maybe 6. I did see Rob with the Skyline there, but that was it.

They charge $10 just to watch. I'd love to go race, I just need to get out of work sometime before 5pm. Practice would be nice, but I think I have launching down pretty well. As for shifting, my 2'nd 3rd shift is about as reliable as a late 70's Jaguar. Sometimes it works, others, well..., right. Need to find time to run up to Mike Youngs to do this tranny swap.

Tomorrow? Tomorrow is the 2nd wed of the month. I looked at the regulations and I was well within the specs. The guy was being a jerk. I'll do my best to make it out, I should be off work at 4:30. I'll pack the helmet and a change of clothes tonight.

Cool, but I am perplexed. Stock Solex cars were tested back in the 60's and they recorded 1/4 mile times ranging from 16.1 to 16.5 seconds at 80something miles per hour. The magazines at the time complained that the tire width limited acceleration.
Will has more than a stock solex. He has a bored, decked, cammed, low restriction intake monster. Plus he has tires that would make old bias ply tires pale in comparistion today. According to that, he should be dogging the old numbers from the magazines. What gives?

To say that my reaction time was bad is a gross understatement. .879 sec! And I was launching from an idle, like I was leaving a stoplight. Can we say Slow? The reaction time was a bad case of staging, yellow, yellow, yellow, green.... Oh perhaps I should get on it. In the long run it was a good thing that I sucked, I won the stupid lucky moron award. When I replaced the tranny, I failed to double check the tailshaft bolts on the tranny. I got home and found that all 4 were about to fall out.
I think if I had gotten one good launch I would have had bigger issues than a slow run. All I have to say is that I will never make that mistake again.

Well, that explains a lot Will! You need to get your technique down and go make a solid run. Starting from idle is NOT the key there!!

I am not a drag racer, so I don't know the ins and outs of these things. I do know that a crap reaction time (no offense Will) and starting from idle rather than slipping the clutch to work the traction to get maximum launch will kill the 1/4 mile time. What about what Jerry Krakauer said on the list:
"Waaaay back(early 70s) I ran a 14.9 @93mph, 67.5 Solex with 4.38:1 LSD, and I still have the timing slip."
Now, Jerry was not a drag racer, but rather he road raced. He has some digger gears, but I doubt that the gear change netted him that much time. Again, I could be wrong...
My point is, if Jerry pulled a 14.9, then Will should have been closer to that (or even better) IF his reaction time was right AND IF his engine was built to be the monster that he says it is.
If Will is game, how about having someone who is an adept racer put the car down the line to see what numbers he can post with it?

Sid, you are right in questioning the timing, from what we know Will has put into his engine and car, it should do better...
I would bet that Will can improve his launch and reaction time given the chance at a little practice...
I would also bet that his car is not putting out what it was built to do. A quick trip to a dyno could prove that, and someone very skilled in the art of tuning carbs (why I have EFI) would probably net another 50hp unless there is something wrong with the build up.
Alvin is correct, if the hp was there, the final speed would be higher whatever the reaction time and launch.
Will - I think with more tuning, you'll get more power and a bigger grin on your face. I have seen it more than once. Try to find some old school carb guy...They know all of the tricks!
