ok one more for the day and I'll leave y'all alone .
this looks to be tweaked .. now , does it need to be hooked onto the back hole that appears to house it for ground or something ? there's polarity in the two wires and everything turns when I turn the arms up front the hour turns fine manually and minutes , but it's never worked in the year I've had it ..

You can always convert the clock to a quartz movement with a small dry cell for power

What I thought to be a dead clock when purchasing car just needed to be oiled. Took a pin tip and oiled all pivot points just delicately and clocks been running 10 years now. There is also a fine looking wire that is a fuse if I recall. That needs to be intact.

does the clock take a positive and negative to the wires ? when I hook up to 12v battery , it seems like it's jamming it up that way . it shows movement when tapped on then stopped then when power is removed it'll tick again and stop. so I tap tap tap it to power and it'll tick tick tick as long as I'm moving the wire . but can't tell yet if it's just rocking it hack and forward or ticking it up .. I did it for a bit to see if I could get a minute to move but idk ... don't think so ...

well I can't see anything wrong with this clock still so I've cleaned it and lubed it really good and we'll see how it goes back in . maybe it'll work , maybe it won't . so I'll be back to let y'all know ... thanks for all the ideas on what to look for ......

nope , didn't work ... cleaned , oiled , and still no go ! idk . checked that diode in there and seems to be open allowing power through . but it's only wants to move if I give it alternating power .. whatever that means for it .. has that fine wire , actually 2 of them that I can see , but when it gets power it'll start to move then stop .. then if I move the wire on the battery or lift it , it'll start again then stop . so I'm stumped and quit ..

What about the brushes and commuter on the motor itself. That might explain why it work a bit when you switch it back and forth if there is a carbon bridge on a pair of commuters?

Can you just remove the motor itself to make sure it’s spinning properly without all the gearing.

ok so I've kinda figured out what a carbon bridge might be by sheer intelligence , haha , but I'm baffled on what a pair of commuters are . I'll try to Google it but I'll tell ya , Google don't know everything yet . I've baffled Google before a few 100 times . thank you for the info !!

It actually is called a commutator. The rotating part of an electric motor.
