3D Model of the Solex Intake

Post by BBF Roadster »

Hello All
I have been working on the CAD models for a dry reproduction of the Solex intake for the U20's.
I want to make them as affordable as possible, IMO that would be $500 to $750 including linkage.
I have a few dimensions that I want to verify from the Solex owners on here.
Once I can verify these dimensions I will begin the manufacturing process.
I'm building one for me first and if I can meet my price goals I will offer them for sale.
Thank you to all of you in this forum, you are the most helpful group of people I've ever seen.

OK, here goes (all measurements in mm, and please wait for confirmation/correction from others before moving on these):

C1 (and H1) must fit over 8x1.25 mounting studs

C2 104

C3 59

C4 84

C5 46 (tapers inside the flange to 44 when port matched)

C6 44

C7 73

H2 27

H3 38 wide x 41.5 tall (these are oval shaped)

H4 94

H5 107

H6 18

H7 112

The side view photo shows that the flange surfaces are not parallel, and the upper outer edge flange distance is shorter (107) than the bottom (115).

One heckuva project, even w/o provision for water flow. Good luck.

Jon

Awesome Jon
The Pics are a great help, especially the side view.
This is the first clear side view pic I have seen, fantastic Jon.
My dimensions rely on having exact C1 and H1 diameters, can you please check these also.
Also I have revised my side view, can you get the Z3 dimension, close approximation is Ok.

Important Solex Intake Question

Post by BBF Roadster »

Ok I have an important questions for everyone.
Is a Solex manifold that requires the use of the original carb insolators preferred, or would a manifold carb flange that is designed to fit your carbs without the insolators be better.

A plug of 8.25mm seems to provide the best fit for the C1 and H1 mounting holes.

The revised Z3 dimension looks to be 111mm on my calipers.

I took measurements in a number of different locations around the insulator and there's slight variation (17.65 - 17.74) but the most common is 17.7mm.

Regarding the isolators, are they needed or could the manifold be designed such as to not need them, but instead uses a more common mount? I think they add to the potential cost.

Yeah the insulators will add $200 + to the setup.

Those carb insulators are ridiculously expensive! Anyone have a 3D printer?

So maybe a stupid question but since it’s a DCOE style mounting flange wouldn’t it stand to reason that you could use Weber Insulators?
They look the same to me
