Smallest positive offset on 14x6s

Post by troyt »

What's the smallest positive offset on 14x6 wheels you can fit on the REAR of a stock height '69 Roadster, probably wearing 195/60/14s?
Matching sets seem safe to go with +12 to +15, but I'm asking rear specifically. Outer lip rolling is fine, I'm just trying to widen the rear track as much as possible. Thanks

14x6 "0" offset wheels are common on 240Zs.....Usually they require rolling the fender for them to fit on a Roadster.
Excessive rolling to the point of flaring, you might be able to fit neg. 0.5 or more.

Well here's what I came up with... I had some custom widened steelies made using the OE steels. I had the stock centers cut out and welded into some new 14x6 barrels with my desired backspacing, 3.75" rear and 4.25" front, that's equivalent to about 3mm and 15mm offset. Mounted up some 195x65 Vredestiens. Rears went on today after a rear brake job, I'll test out the fronts tomorrow.

Fronts are on, lateral spacing is great. Next step will be lower front springs.

Been awhile since I've seen a punched out steelie application. Looks great!

That's cool to see. I'm in the process of customizing some 14" steel wheels as well. I'm trying to land on final dims and offsets. I'm looking at adding an inch for a 14x6.5" final width. Offset may be as low as +3mm, but I'm not sure it'll fit right. ('69 roadster)

Thanks for sharing!

If you want the outside to be in the same position as Troy's wheels, you need to add 6-7 mm to his offset for 6.5 wheels.
+10 for the rear and +22 for the front.

Thanks for that. I think I"m looking to go a little more aggressive. I'd like to be as flush as I can front and rear.

Troy. Where did you get your barrels and who did the work?

Barrels and work done by Stockton Wheels in Stockton, CA. It's an old-school, family run shop that gets bad internet reviews. I think they just don't like dealing with the younger internet crowd. They mostly do custom steel hotrod wheels. I took my wheels to them direct, and they were great to work with. They promised wheels in 4 weeks, and they met their deadline to the day. About $150/wheel.
This pic is of how the wheels come back to you, blasted bare steel.
