What will be the treatment for the shift boot/console? Trim ring, or not?!
That's impressive to see an original boot/console!

I don't know what's correct but I really dig that little trim ring...it looks so tidy.

Doubling that figure would be closer!
That would still be a bargain, IMO.

More Progress

With a long holiday weekend here, I was able to put in some good hours on Project Unicorn to get this thing back on the road.

First up was putting on the front and rear bumpers as well as installing the grille as well:

Image

We seldom run the stock over riders on our resto-mods, but I must admit they look good here. I really like the original Emerald Empire Sports Car Club (EESC) badge that was on the car when we rescued it-- that club is still active today!

Then it was time to tackle the doors. I never like building doors.

The quarter windows were rebuilt with all new seals and adjusted properly:

Image

The 67.5 door pulls have a rubber stopper that disintegrated when I tried to adjust it, and I knew that the door pull would not be happy without it, so I managed to replace them in situ (which saved me from having to pull all of the door locking mechanism out again!)

With the door lock mechanisms and window regulators lubed, adjusted, and working properly, I could then break out the eye candy.

NOS window cranks:

The door escutcheons repainted and the rubber bumper re-installed:

And doors complete:

Happy to have that all behind me-- on to the windshield next!

I did not know there was a little rubber stopper on the door escutcheon! I need to check mine now.
Did you leave door jamb hardware/latch unpainted?

A rubber or clear silicone snubber placed on the inside door latch (escutcheon or back of handle) keeps it from rattling while underway.

The latch assy is original (clear zinc finish) and the receivers on the body are painted body color (per original).

The inside chrome is painted per original-- detailed in a previous post.

Looks beautiful, Michael! Very inspiring!!

Two quick questions for the knowledgeable out there:
- Did all front bumpers for 311s have provisions for a license plate, or were there any years/regions that got bumpers that were contoured all the way across?
- For the cars with red seats and vinyl, did they always come with red carpeting, or was black carpeting also an option?

Thanks in advance, and looking forward to seeing more progress on the Unicorn!!

I have never seen a front bumper on any year without the recess. Not saying that it didn't happen, just haven't seen it. To my knowledge, if they got red seats, they got red door panels and secondary vinyl and red carpet. Dash was always black.
