67.5 | Now a Canadian Roadster

Post by farhad »

Hi everyone!

I bought SERE Nate's 1967.5 Datsun Roadster almost exactly a month ago.

Here is the car once I got it home after a 3 day trip from Kirkland, WA to North Vancouver, BC.

Before I go any further I need to give Ross Mullen from Sport Imports a public thank you! The man is an absolute savior! I called him the week before I headed down just to introduce myself and ask if I could visit the shop on my way home on what I thought would be a nice cruise home. After being turned away at the border as the import officer was closing up shop he organized a place for me to park in Blaine, picked me up on the Canadian side, gave me a place to sleep and drove me back to the border in the morning for me to complete the importation process. Then was able to install a rebuilt idler box, install new control arm bushings and was even willing to store the hardtop so that I could finally experience the roadster as a convertible!

What a drive home... from needing to get a local shop to spend 2 hours to get the car to hold idle and not bog down on hills, to discovering undisclosed deficiencies, to driving on the hwy and having the hard top almost fly off because it was only secured with 1 screw then re-securing it using loose screws in the ashtray and a dime.. the list goes on.

To be honest I don't feel entirely good about the purchase due to some false information and misguidance on the sellers part but I'm committed to getting the car back to its full potential. The car needs interior work (seats, door panels, gauges, carpet, rear view mirror, sun visors), electrical (there is a draw on the battery) and just some cleaning up of the exterior paint job / a new windshield.

The good news is that the paint looks good, its rust free and drives pretty well now. Excited for next summer!

Here are some more pictures! Look forward to hopefully meeting some of you in the future.

Seems that getting these cars home always proves to be an adventure. Congrats :)

Welcome. Glad to hear you are getting the issues sorted. Ross is a pretty standup guy and sounds like he was more than accommodating. Enjoy the ride. I did add the picture you sent as your avatar. The car looks great in the pictures.

Farhad:
It was a pleasure to meet you and get acquainted with your car. We installed an idler box and upper a arm bushings, shafts, seals and lock tabs to tighten up your slightly worn front end. You have the makings of a very nice car that needs some attention , but , all in all, well bought. Looking forward to seeing you at the local BBQ events this spring and summer.

Congrats with the purchase despite some misgivings. I had the same experience when I bought mine couple years back. Nevertheless, looks like a great buy and the car looks wonderful.

I think most older car purchases have some aspects that go undisclosed by the seller. I see both sides of it, the seller doesn’t want to scare a buyer away but I would prefer full disclosure.
