Vintage Nissan Manufacturing Images (Roadsters!)

Found these images posted on a Japanese website this morning, and they were too good not to share!

Vintage Nissan manufacturing images of the Datsun roadster are very scarce. I have seen just a handful over the last 20 years, but this is quite the treasure trove of 67.5 manufacturing, as well as the new mock up of the 1968 body, and a production 1969 SPL 311.

In many cases, I was quite surprised to see that manufacturing was more advanced than I have previously given Nissan credit for. But there is still plenty of hand finishing going on in these images, as well as some shots of the lead being installed on the seams.

Fog lights behind the grille? (or just the horns?--they look more like bulbs in this photo)

This engine picture is interesting. Factory photo?

Solex 2000 engine with alternator on right side. Also the 1600 engine with the metal fan with the hole in the middle of the fan from the factory. I always thought that was from people drilling the hole in order to use a later water pump.

These are great! Wow.

I too feel bad for those guys working the lead with no PPE. The things we didn't know back then :-(

These roadster /csp311 photos were released by someone who worked at TONOX (the factory where these photos depict). Also in the bundle, is photos of some of its van/pick-ups I have seen. I have had the Silvia photos for about 2 months (forwarded onto me) but never got to see the roadster ones.Tonox have their own website and Farcebook page, as the factory is still going.

I think you will find, a lot of car manufacturers of the day did a lot of finishing by hand, and I think you could find some of the Japanese car manufacturers were quite advanced in their production methods.

So Tonox did the bodies for Nissan Shatai? Makes sense as they are in the same area.
