Re: Best Budget Handling Upgrades?
I got a weird thing about rusty exhaust. Kinda like a checked sidewall.
Cut that off and send it to Sid.

What is the process, do you just take off 1 at a time and replace? How tight are they supposed to be? I don't think I have ever checked mine.

Re: Best Budget Handling Upgrades?
I jacked up the back to take the tension off the leaf springs and than just did all of them at the same time. Didn't know how tight to go. The DatsunParts.com kit i used have very fine threads compared to stock so they really clamp with not a whole lot of turning effort.Linda wrote:What is the process, do you just take off 1 at a time and replace? I feel like I need the force every time I work on these old cars. Very rarely does something that should be easy go as planned

Re: Best Budget Handling Upgrades?
i just hate under the car ! it's messy smelly and of course harder because THERE'S NO ROOM !
i made the mistake of taking a smoke under with me one, twice, maybe three times and the cherry gets knocked off every time .. why .. BECAUSE THERE'S NO ROOOM .. haha no I'm sore from going under the car and trying to tune my weed eater . . yank yank yank my arm off .

Suggest steam cleaning the under carriage and suspension before you start taking apart anything.
Only spray penetratig oil on the fasteners threads since it will not do the rubber parts any good.
The sway bar bolts are especially easy to break off -- go easy. J

I was exaggerating that I was going to spray everything down! hahaJT68 wrote:Suggest steam cleaning the under carriage and suspension before you start taking apart anything.

I definitely want to get the bottom of the car steam cleaned. A friend recommended an awesome place to do it but its a far drive away and essentially I would lose a day to get that steam cleaning done. I will probably just go to the self-service car wash by my house and do it on my own to the best of my abilities. Definitely makes a difference getting all the old crud off...
