Here is a controversial question. Should a roadster with an engine swap be qualified to compete in the best roadster category? Basically a car with a swapped motor is a "restomod". I remember seeing a roadster with a small Ford V8 at Solvang. Sorta of a japanese version of the Sunbeam Tiger. Some purists would agree that a Datsun roadster with a Ford motor is unqualified to be in a best Datsun roadster competition. Conversely, is a Sunbeam Alpine with a Datsun motor a Datsun? Any thoughts?

Solvang has categories for stock and restomods. Otherwise this thread is about to go way off topic...lol :smt073

I think it depends on the type of show. If it were the Japanese car show show in Long Beach, I'd hope they would have a separate category or I would prefer they excluded them as contestants.
I love the conversions but I feel they are in a class by themselves. Most of the conversions I have seen would easily beat me in a show, or already have, so maybe I am tainted. LOL.

As a driver I'd love to own one, but if I saw a car in a contest, I'd rather see the $ go into the original restore vs a modern mod.

I'm not sure that the JCCS judges know that a 240sx motor is not the stock motor in a Roadster. Unfortunately a restomod could be the Best Datsun Roadster winner at JCCS. I too would like to see an unmolested roadster win.

For the past few years the judges at JCCS appear to be favoring stock cars. Obviously, I think originality merits recognition, but "restomods" represent more than just a small part of our community and are most deserving of attention as well - Jon Frampton's car comes first to mind. Maybe a separate category? I don't really think it matters all that much to the people who show their cars or the Roadster community at large though.

Of course they do, what makes you think otherwise? Last year they awarded stock motor roadsters 1st and 3rd place.

This is very unfortunate. Why don't you do your part, and enter your own roadster to prevent this from happening?
Red Baron wrote:I too would like to see an unmolested roadster win.
Me too. But we all have different definitions of "unmolested".

UPDATE 02-15-18: These are the old style DatsunVents - the new ones are much sleeker ;)
I'll have some Datsun Vents available for high windshield cars for $40/pr. if you see me around the show in a white "Datsun Vents" t-shirt.
