New To the Wonders of the 1967 1600 world

Hey guys,
My name is Shane, I live in the Houston area. Came across my 67 1600 a few weeks ago. Guy thought the engine was frozen, don't know what he was doing, I removed the radiator and cranked smoothly with a socket on the crank pulley.

Anyway, its running, got all of the bad gas out of it, changed the oil, little tid bits here and there and shes a runner.

I've been restoring cars my whole life. As you guys probably know I have an addiction. I was always into Chevy's because I was comfortable with them (for various reasons). Done probably 12-15 cars. Not to perfection. I would trade etc. Had a lot of fun.

I have had 2 MG's in the past one a 69 and a 75. Pretty cool but didn't really do it for me. Now a days I get bored with most cars and have been looking and looking for something interesting. Ill tell you what, I FOUND IT.

This car is so frekin cool. Well you guys know.

Can I ask a question or 2?

1. It came with a hard top. ? Should it also have a soft top? It doesn't.
2. Should I use lead additive with the fuel? Probably a stupid question but from reading a lot of forums, I cant come to a conclusion.
3. Can someone point me to information any 1600 newby should know?

Thanks in advance for all of the info on the site and any replies.

Shane...

Somewhat depends on the local fuel...in general Yes at lest some of the time

You found it.....Check the wiki and search the forum
If you add "+" in front of a word they are additive
This is a very helpful site, no dumb questions......flaming someone will hurt you.

Welcome to the family Shane! Another convert! Ya, we're pretty passionate about our stupid little cars, but there's just something about them that grabs your soul. I've had mine for over 30 yrs and everyone knows that most of my friends have come from owning it. We're ready to help with anything you need, and occasionally things you don't! There are a lot of things you can do to upgrade the car some, but it is a simple little beast and fun the way they are. However, you can develop a bit more power with engine options, engine upgrades, major mods or engine swaps. Handling and braking can improve as well... just let us know what you're interested in and we'll chime in for sure if you like. There are probably several local owners there as well who can help... I hear pizza and beer go a long way with a Roadster owner :-).
Have fun!

Welcome to a new version of your same old addiction, Shane! Sounds like you found a great car that needed you as much as you needed it! Can't wait to see pics and hear about all the stuff you do to it. As others have said, ask any question, you'll find this the best and most helpful bunch of car enthusiasts around! the Tech wiki is full of amazing material that will help you through the most common roadster mechanical conundrums.
