I haven't verified it but I have heard that the header wrap tape can hold the heat in and cause the header to overheat. Also it will hold moisture.

That looks like an older crack, it's fairly uniformly rusted. Perhaps the crack was there and it has just weakened enough to blow out now?

If you get it welded, the hi temp VHT aerosol paint works well on headers

Can you well these ? It had paint on it when it was new in June , brand new . Then I panted it purple then yellow which all burnt off while shaping the cam. Cough cough , yes gross , but this was when I started it this morning . Actually theirs two cracks .. I'm bummed ! But can u weld these ? I'm checking to see if theirs a warranty at too end performance.. I bought it in March 16 but wasn't running until Sept .16. So idk . That's 231.$ out the window if not . Plus probably two days in lorna speed . Ugh . More work . haha shit

I often wonder about how I would see if the pipes blew with this wrap on , but u can tell it tells on itself with literally a blowout in the wrap . And yes I'm not having it on the next ! It did save the starter from heat . maybe I'll just wrap it around that spot . Humm there's an idea . Anyway yeah bummed big time . Wanted to play all summer , not be another year with my face looking down n this motor still . Ugh . I think I need a flexpipe !!

Oh and idk on how old it is but it's always been pretty loud and I have no idea how this cars supposed to sound . So if it's not as loud as it was it's good kinda thinking . So this crack could have started a bit ago . I noticed with my stereo, for a while now , that the volume has been turned higher up to hear the music clearly . But again it's all new to me . . My mechanic mentioned a flex pipe is needed, and can very well could be, from the location of them both maybe ?

You can weld if the metal is in good shape. Where did you get the header? There are nice ceramic coated versions available from the vendors that are pretty beefy. That one looks kind of thin. Still should not have done that in such a short time if it was really new. Flex pipe is a very good idea and should relieve a lot of stress on the system.

Yes it was new in March 16 . But an odd question maybe .. I have the original one and this one . The original one has 4openings going into 2 pipes and this one has 4 pipes . Which would the car prefer ?

Gotta get a flex pipe - one of the the best 'mods' for these cars - minimizes the effect of the engine moving.

I never had much luck welding the stock manifold (would crack and leak again... finally threw the thing across the alley, happy to be done with it!), but I have never had a header crack like that. I have run a flex pipe but currently do not have one and have not for some time. However, my exhaust (2.25 pipe) has some room to move a tad as the holes in the frame are opened up a bit, so that may be why I am ok. Talk to the vender, see what they may do. I also had my header wrapped in the past, again without issue for years (now thermo coated).
