And now for something completely different!
After years of indecision, I have decided to bite the bullet as it were, and have a go at building a new padded dash cap for my Fairlady.
I have what is left of the original, sad as it is So I have started this project with the aim of getting a presentable dash pad for minimum expenditure.
You know the old saying, "Everyone wants something for nothing but nobody wants to pay for it!"
Well, I am well on my way to doing this and I have created a new album on my Shutterfly site to show my progress.

As of today I am at the point of sourcing some suitable high density foam to start the actual pad.
I have a few leads to follow so hopefully I should have the material by the weekend.
The foam will have to be fire retardant and fully able to be shaped with hand tools and sanding blocks etc.
Stay tuned for what I hope to be an interesting and worthwhile exercise

I knew I should have kept my old dash, Doh! ... waiting with great anticipation to see the finished product!

I have kept all the trim and crap until I have replicated it and fitted it to the car.
I intend to keep what is left of the dash just in case I need to make another one

Made a bit more progress. Just about ready to actually start cutting the foam and bonding bits together!

First bit of bonding done. No doubt about the contact adhesive, it grabs quick smart! Should be able to get quite a bit done in the next day or so if it doesn't get too cold outside. Then again, why don't I do it on the dining room table! HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!

Had a very productive couple of days. A lot of waiting for bonding to dry but the new dash pad is certainly looking the goods. More pics. @ https://nissanman.shutterfly.com/2920

In the home stretch as far as the foam pad is concerned: -
Getting the hang of shaping the foam around the ends.
The LHS has far less surgery than the RHS and seems to fit just as well.

Nissanman - time for an update?

What would be interesting is to have a left hand drive pad scanned and then reverse it and then 3D print it. I wonder if it is possible?

Due to an overseas holiday and general lethargy I haven't got back to the project.
I will, I promise!
Currently it is ready for a trial fit and if/when my lower back will let me that will be soon

get an inverter table . oh my word it changed my life from back pain . seriously . and not the $500 one on TV . big five has them for $100 . my friends come over just to use it . haha seriously .. but I have none basically and that wasn't the case 2yrs ago . it did take almost a week and a half to start to feel better ..but when it did ...... wow I wouldn't sell it for a million bucks if I couldn't get another one . not a billion actually if I went back to what I was . it was terrible . ok off subject , but I never miss a chance to share this experience because it's amazing. ok I'm done . but seriously , get one . haha
