Liquified Mobile 1 synthetic grease problem
Hello collective wisdom!
I have recently replaced a bunch of parts that required being greased (rear wheel bearings, front steering and suspension components etc.) I used Mobile 1 red synthetic grease. I have noticed that the grease seems to be breaking down and liquefying to motor oil consistency. I'm worried about the effectiveness (or lack) of this grease if it's breaking down this quickly.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Could it just be a bad tube of grease?
Is there a better or more appropriate grease to use?
Thank you so much in advance!

Are you sure it's not just getting warm ? I don't know anything about grease, but I know it thins a bit when warm . Idk if where you're using it gets hot , but something to consider maybe . I could be in left field with this though .. I'm sure someone will know better than a guess . Good luck and happy Roadstering

Re: Liquified Mobile 1 synthetic grease problem
Funny, you bring this up. I have noticed some red oil dripping out of my front hubs after replacing the wheel bearings and packing them with the Mobil1 syn grease. At least in my case, I am not going to worry too much about it. If it continues after I started driving the car I may investigate it further.

Re: Liquified Mobile 1 synthetic grease problem
Ive seen that before with mobil 1 syn. Grease, almost like it separates, not sure if it is a problem or not? Ive been using lucas "red and tacky " and it seems to work well. I noticed that it too will seperate a bit in hot conditions. The grease part is still greasy, its just like a little liquefied red oil seperates from the grease.

Re: Liquified Mobile 1 synthetic grease problem
Thanks for the input....good to know that others are seeing the same thing. I had first thought that my newly replaced rear seals had already failed. I wasn't looking forward to taking everything apart. Looks like I'll just keep an eye on things and maybe use a different grease? I'd just hate to take life off of brand new parts, if the properties of the grease are failing.

Yup - it may be good, but the 'separation' even in the gun lying in the drawer doesn't inspire ANY confidence with me. So I intend to clean up and regrease ALL areas, including the nipple areas.

Same grease, same problem. Not going to worry about it.

Same experience here on Mobil 1 grease. I have switched to Royal Purple for wheel bearings and Moly Graph for the suspension and idler box.

Same experience here with the red grease, actually glad to hear that others experienced it, as I was concerned about the seals as well. I cleaned up the initial red mess, and it did not return. At least not yet, and it has been at least 2 years since.

I use the Royal Purple that Mike posted above. Great stuff.
