Just Dashes and Pay It Forward Dash Scheme

I have NO financial gain in this, it is all about facilitating our community in its efforts to keep our cars on the road and looking good.

Background.
Eliza caught on fire and trashed the dashpad.
Phil gave me a trashed dash which I had refurbished at JD.
Takes 8+ weeks, but I could still drive Eliza while waiting.
Then I offered MY old dash (freebie) and I would deliver MINE for finishing and then P.I.F. would occur.
Done to Gregg in Oregon.

How this works.
Instead of waiting for JD to fix your dash etc. with their 12+ week turnaround - which means your car will be off the road, give me a call.

If, I have core parts, which is my intention, then I will take said core around to JD.

You will make financial arrangements and when all is done (new dash delivered etc.) send me the'core' parts for the next person.

The costs (shipping etc.) are about the same, but the effective turnaround (inasmuch as you don't have to remove your stuff YET) is that you get to use your car for the 12+ 'waiting' weeks.

I have NO financial interest in this.

I benefitted by Phil's initial generosity and thus I thought I would create something of a pay it forward for dash board etc. recovery.

FWIW

BTW - since I asked for this 'area', I thought I should be the first to post something in it.

As those at Solvang will attest, (having seen the before and after) while JD isn't cheap as opposed to dash caps, they are seriously worth it.

That's super cool of you Pete and a great idea! If I decide to go the JD route (gulp) I'll be in touch.

UPDATE

Just had a thought!!

I can take home up to two more dashes.

SO, if anyone has a dash lying around that they don't need, please LMK so I can make arrangements to pick up at Solvang.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Senor Daugherty bought the JD dash that Gregg had done.

He is bringing the core to Solvang for me to take home.

So, if anyone is considering a JD dash, then get in contact with me. \

As previously stated, you will make all financial arrangements with JD and once you receive the new dash, you will ship your core to me for the next person.

Cost is about the same, but the benefit is the shortened wait time.

(JD just told me that wait time is now TWELVE weeks!!!!!

LMK,

Pete

Picked up a dash+glove box from Shannon.

So, if anyone out there is thinking of Just Dashes, lmk.

To repeat, I will take dash/door to JD.

You negotiate the finances.

They will take the time they need (currently 12 weeks) - ship it to you and then you send me your parts for the next owner.

Also looking for a used center console (between the seats) and radio console for the same reason.

PLUS - currently I have a tach and gauge cluster for the same reasons if anyone is thinking of having their gauges done. Need ideally, a speedo and a clock to complete the set.

Update,

Dash pads - I still have a core + glove box door to send to Just Dashes.

I NOW have a complete set of brake pistons to use as cores, including the calipers (if needed)

Still looking for speedometer, clock, to use as cores for Jon Frampton's magic.

Again, for newbies, the plan is - I send 'stuff' to the appropriate vendor. YOU make appropriate financial deals.
They send you back 'fixed' stuff and you send me your originals for the next person.

I make NO money from this, it's just a convenience considering the time that some of this stuff takes to fix.

Allows you to enjoy driving longer.

Pete: my dash is about ready to go back in with Jon’s rebuilt gauges. I should be done this weekend. I will be tapping the holes under the windshield and will replace the bolts with button top bolts with Allen heads so it will be much easier to access in the future.

I’ll check my stash. I may have the gauges you need. I’m considering having jd restore a center console too.

Pete: I think I have a spare radio console too. I don’t remember if it’s a 68 (one piece) or a 69/70(two piece) though.

Bought this on ebay years ago and couldn't use it . . . until the dash was out.

Front clearly USELESS, but rear could be good patch panel.

5/21
Last chance - rear is good for patch panel

So scrapped the front, just have rear patch panel

Question: How does it work for 1970 dashes, where the car number is on the dash?
