top twistie with longer stud

Postby moose » Sat Apr 15, 2017 7:57 pm

Frame off restoration of a 67 SPL. I am placing the black twisties through the new dash pad for the tonneau cover. It appears under the new dash pad cover I have a fiberglass blemish that is preventing me from getting the nut on the last twisty. I don't want to take a chance of trying to remove the blemish for fear of damaging the dash pad. I am hoping someone out there has a good usable twistie with a stud longer then the standard 1/2". I can paint it black.

Thank you Bruce

I don't think they exist but you might try removing stud from existing and inserting a longer one. I am not sure how to remove but you can experiment. Might have to cement in (JB weld) the replacement stud.

I'm with you, I tried multiple things but the twisty would be damaged beyond use after each attempt. I bought one on evil bay that had a 5/8 stud and was able to compress the pad and fiberglass shell enough to get the nut on. No washers, didn't have the room. Anyway it worked, got the last one installed. Anyone reading, if you plan on "painting the tonneau twisties black.....don't. Leave them chrome and or have them powder coated. I prepped them, use a good self etching primer, good black paint and it still chipped when I installed the tonneau cover. And I am not taking the twisties off again to strip the paint.
