Just an FYI...
...if you're having a bad day, please stay out from under your dash.
Ugh! Trying save a buck or two by installing my recently restored gauges on my own. My speed shop is 40 miles away and he's booked.
Soooooo.... here we go.
Seat out.
(take a break)
Under dash panel removed.
(take a break)
Column removed.
(take a break)
Center console + radio console removed.
(take a break)
Where in the hell did all the wiring come from??? How many stereo's have been spliced in over the years???
Wingnuts??? Really??? How in the world..??
***FYI a 14mm socket will grip these***
Tach out.
(take a break)
Speedo out...
Currently taking a break from wrestling the micro-nuts that hold on the odometer trip reset thing.
Labor cost saved to date, 4hrs @ $70 an hour = $280.00. I'm winning. My hands with beginning stages of arthritis however, are not.

Re: Just an FYI...
I was looking up in there with a flashlight wondering "how in the hell?" "Wait, NO!!", "wiper motor removal???" "Nooooooooo!!!!"
At least I can delete a lot of the gauge bulbs and wires with the new LED's.
Now, how bad do I really need wipers?

Re: Just an FYI...
I still have my dash out for my extensive overhaul. The gauges have been for the most part prepared to go back in. I plan to reassemble and test it as much as I can before reinstalling it.

Re: Just an FYI...
Hmmm... What else can go bye bye? S-Brake set up for sure. Dash dimmer switch can also disappear. There's an asortment of speaker wires under here. Gone! There's also an odd clear tube thing. I'm thinking cowl drain?? I hope not because it would currently come out on my throttle foot. The remnants of the idle cable were found. Gone!! The choke cable was left in for looks. Gone!!! Ugh wait, my engine installer cut it!! No! I bought that new 3 years ago from Dean $$$. Oh well. Gone!!!! Antenna cable was coiled up and hidden. Keep that. Have you seen the cost of an antenna???
Can we get some more green with red striped wire under here please?

Re: Just an FYI...
Kill me.
Oil pressure line removed.
Driver defrost duct removed.
Quad gauge out.
***Amp wires appear to have been melted for a long time***
Lots of looking, lots of staring. "What's this wire? Where does it go? Where does it end? Wait... What?"
I have felt the clock's nuts (that didn't sound right) 7/16" maybe?
Hey, while I'm under here, the heater needs... NO! Don't even start that crap. Summer's just around the corner and I won't spend it in the garage.

Re: Just an FYI...
Pebbles, usually the clock has a twist to remove bezel ring.
It's the only gauge that uses this method.
Kind of gives some indication on which gauge is the least reliable doesn't it

Hmmmm, sounds about right. Auxiliary gauges spliced into what was that originally? Exposed live wire? Found that the hard way. Switch to fog lamps maybe? Do I need to smoke some crack to get in the proper mindset of the last person who worked on this?
Whoever designed that dash must've had a very bad childhood to want to torture so many strangers needlessly.

I took a break for about 2 days.. Went back out, and it came out..Kendall124 wrote:Kill me.

If you want an under dash visual, here is where the nuts are...
As I recall, I was using a 1/4 drive ratchet, with extensions and a wobble.. Wiper motor did not come out. So if yours is out, it should be doable..RCMike wrote:So getting some work done.. I had removed the gauges to get some work done, but could not get to the clock.. Spent a couple more hours on my back under the dash today, and I finally got the little brat out..
Then I got started on one of those remove before flight items, filling the rear diff..
As I was under the car, got a text.. Work is done on the gauges..
Once again, Jon Frampton just killed it with these.. So a drive to the OC for pick up and drop off is in store for me, be nice to get down to the beach for a few hours.. It's too hot out here.. Thank god for the ice cream trucks around my neighborhood..lol

Mike, did you drop the heat control levers out? IIRC these for me, were the snake pit guarding the treasure.

My hands came out with nicks and cuts all over after recent dash work. Still healing, but everything is working!
