Carb model/size

Hey guys my friend and i are in search for some filtration systems for our cars. I just want to know what specs are 1600 and 2000 as far as model number goes. The vendor is asking whether we have a HS1 HS2 HS4 and so forth...there are 10 diiferent kinds of japanese hitachi SU's as far as he knows....so which are our SU models for the 1600 and 2000. Thanks in advnace

HS2, HS4 etc. are sizes of British SU's. I don't think the Hitachi's are classified that way. It's usually by engine or car.

I think the SU's for the 2000 correspond to HS4's, but I'm not too sure. The 2000 SU's are the same size (and use many of the same parts) as the early 240z.

HS4 is a 1.5" (38 mm) carb. Same size as the stock 1600 carb.

You'll have to pay attention to throttle and choke linkages, and float chamber location, as I believe there are lot's of variations on these out in "SU land."

Ok well the orginal question is that i want to get some filters for my 2000...they are asking me what size do i have or what model....

Are you looking for fuel filters? Or the little cylindrical fuel inlet screen that goes in the carburetor? If it is the latter I just ordered some from Nissan; their minimum quantity was 10 and I really only need 2, so just let me know if you need a pair.

Could you define "filters".. Are we talking fuel filters, which could be inline aftermarkets or are you talking about the bango filter screens that are inside the carb bowl metal input lines. which I believe are the same for 1600 and 2000 carbs.... Bill

The 2000 uses 1 3/4 inch (46MM) throttle bores while the 1600 uses 1 1/2 inch (38MM) throttle bores. These are approximate English dimensions based on conversion from Metric.

I believe this makes the 2000 an HS6, but I could be wrong.

I believe after market round or oval type foam or K/N filters for 240z applications will fit. The only negative side is that they don't come with air horns attached.

FWIW, HS6's are comparable to the 2L su's (1.75" dia bore)

What i wanted to do is to run two seperate airfilters instead of the one piece stock. I want the two mushrooms, i think alvin has a picture of them.

Check out VW and motorcycle parts places. Both VWs and bikes run carbs with simliar bores. I have used mooreparts.com before for things like carb to manifold gaskets.

Sorry 69ner I must of missed the "air" filter. I assumed we were talking fuel filters... The singles air filters do look nice, I always wondered how one would vent the crankcase with those type filters and if there is a clearance issue with the rear filter and the dual master cylinder? Bill

You would want to have a small catch can with a breather on it to vent the crankcase. The rear carb air filter clearance is the real issue.
