Hi All,
Well I will get right to it...I have been the proud owner of a sweetie I call Lil Red since she was given to me in 1988 as Mother's Day gift. Funny thing is the car was sold due to the previous owners wife being too pregnant to drive it and after me owning it for 2 months I became prego. Okay enough of that. I have loved the Datsun for many a year but stopped driving it when my daughter turned 16(didn't want her to learn how fast it would go) and so it has sat and now needs another restoration. I have been trying to sell it on Hemmings and a man who came to look at the car told me to try here in order to make sure I don't have the car over or under priced. I am new to all this as the car was my pleasure car and not something I 'worked on'. Oh sure I learned how to do a few things under the hood but not much. Soooo I will stop and post info on another thread and see if anyone can offer help. Thanks so much for adding me and happy motoring to all you Datsun lovers. Thanks so much-Dana

Welcome to 311's. I was originally from Springfield Mo. Lots of folks can chime in on what you might do to bring your car up to value prior to sale....or even find a buyer as is here! Best of luck!

Ok Dana....first things.....is it currently running? If not, check with your local car-guy garage and see if they'd swing by to look into that. Shouldn't be much to ascertain those needs. Probably a battery, some rubber fuel lines and basic carb cleaning etc. and gas used from a jug (not the tank yet). Possibly distributor cleaning, lubing and timing dialed in.
Once she's running.....air up those tires and see if any need replaced for a safe test ride.
If you want to get the most enthusiastic buyers and get the most for her you can.....consider a reputable detail shop to strip off all that black non-factory paint on the normally bright trims and bumpers...along with a color sanding and polishing of the body paint. They can work around the rusty areas. An interior and engine detail will also make for a better representation. They could even polish the plastic tops rear window too.
Now....other bits that could help. Lose the steering wheel cover. Perhaps the missing hood letters that read 'DATSUN' are a bit too pricey these days, but they belong there as well as the missing trunk chrome trim handle and demarcation emblems that read DATSUN 1600 at three points ( both sides and left side of rear light panel)
I'm thinking with those things done, you've gone from lower spectrum price to the most you can get without bodywork, rust etc. being done. Leave that up to the next enthusiast buyer.
