Hi All,
My 5-speed won't stay in 4th or 5th so it has to come out. I have all the parts to go back to a 4-speed. The question is will the 5-speed flywheel and clutch work with the 4-speed ? The slave cylinder ?
Thanks as always
Steve

Yes, you can use those parts with the four speed. I believe the more desirable clutch, no matter the transmission, is the higher pressure set up that you already have with your five speed.

I believe you need the thinner backing plate, too.

I would bet you could use the thicker 5-speed plate with your 4 speed. The input shaft would ride a little bit more toward the rear of the car. The clutch would throw-out bearing would self adjust.

Re: 5-speed back to a 4-speed
Ha Ha Keith. I own two other 67.5 1600s. I would buy another 5-speed, and swap out the old one, but they are too expensive at the moment. I will take all of the parts off of one of the 4-speed cars and put it in this one, until I have the funding to fix the 5-speed. I thank everyone for their input. I do think I will swap out the backing plate though, so I don't put premature wear on the clutch plate.
