Holy moly! I was browsing carcollectortradingonline.com and came across Andrew's solex 67. What's up with that! I thought he would give up his testicles before he'd sell it.

He posted both here on on the Roadster list that it was for sale. He said that he would give folks in the Roadster community a shot at it for 2 weeks before he put it on eBay. Looks like things weren't moving fast enough though.

I didn't see it posted here. Where was it?

It's posted in the Classifieds For Sale forum by Solex67 (Solex67 = Andrew Murphy). Hmm, Andrew, are you gonna change your nick if/when you sell? Naaaaaaaah, DON"T! :P

Anyway, Howard, you probably missed it because the post is titled "A Rare Opportunity" instead of "Immaculate Frame-Off 67.5 SRL."

Cheers.

If I had 25K I'd be all over Andrew's car. You can't have one restored to that quality for that amount!

I'm talking a full nut and bolt resto. I've been working on SRL311-00139 for more years than I care to remember. I've spent at least 5-6K already and I'm just at the rolling frame stage. Still have the body work and paint to do 7-8K, another 5K for the engine work, 2K for a set of solexes. Add some wiring harnesses and rechroming and it's in the same ballpark.

I have seen the car at solvang and personally didn't feel it was that nice. It is a nice car but not one to warrant $25k plus. Alvin's car is in much better shape and is full of new technology.

Please let's not start another Andrew/Andrew's car bashing thread. It's already been done here and on the list.

Haven't seen either car other than pics and write-ups, but comparing them is like comparing two kids in the same family.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but Alvin's is a SPL whereas Andrew's is a SRL. I don't believe Alvin's has had a frame-off restoration, either. I wouldn't be surprised to find that Alvin's newer technology may not have cost as much as Andrew trying to keep his mostly stock.

I bet both cars required skilled people and creative engineering solutions to get to where they are now.

IMHO, both cars are beautiful inspirations to all us roadster owners. 8)

I've seen both cars at Solvang. They are both awesome examples of dedicated roadster enthusiasts. I'm sure it's killing Andrew. that for what ever reason, he has to sell his car. He is very proud of that car. And I feel bad for him. Whether it's worth 25k, is in the eye of the buyer. Someone who has the bucks, but not the time to do a restoration, may find 25k worth it.

Andrew, I'm sorry to see your selling your beautiful car...

I agree with Pete and Howard. The cars are only worth what the buyer is willing to pay. I've never seen Andrews car but if I had the 25K it would be sitting in my garage, hey Pete maybe we can go in on it together.

I was inspired by a Black 67 1/2 SRL back in the early 70's. It was my first roadster ride.

IMHO...I was under the impression that a Restored SRL would be worth more and a Custom SPL.... Bill

Bill, I'll joint venture the purchase with you. I'll drive it on the days of the week that end in "Y". And you can drive on the other days!

Howard, I was thinking more of me being able to keep the car the first year and every year when we go to Shasta or Solvang we would be passing on the keys to the next person involved in the deal :D .... Bill

Bill,

If I partnered w/ you to buy Andrew's car, we wouldn't have to switch off at Shasta or Solvang because you'd have a new roommate! :P

I don't know if this was Andrew's first roadster or not, but he'll definitely be a more knowledgeable buyer/restorer on the next one. 8)
