Look What I Found

Post by dynaguy »

Hi All, I just came across a sweet '63 Datsun Pick-Up. It has 38,000 original miles and a '64 parts truck. Can anyone help me with rarity and value? There are 4 pics in the Album, General, section, they show up as NO THUMBNAIL, just click on that to see the pic. I can probably get it for a fair price, just need to know what that might be. Thanks in Advance. Pat Mahoney'69 2000 slow repaint in progress. p.s. If anyone going to Shasta sees a PU like this give me some feedback please

Does it run? I've always figured that ANY pickup truck that runs and drives, no matter what year, make, or model, is worth at least $500 to $1000.

There's a basket case 61 on traderonline for $750 and a really nice looking, running, and driving 64 for $3,350 (that's been there for about a year!). If that one you are looking at runs and drives I'd offer the guy $1,000 and see what happens.

Here's some links to information on that little guy, known as the 320.

early datsun group

Post by FergO2k »

Pat,
there is an early datsun group on yahoo, that is especially interested in old trucks. Carl 'Rockett' Hockett in NorCal is a guru, could tell you lots of stuff. That is an NL320, and is very rare and desirable due to the 'elcamino' styling. the trucks of this era had driveshaft vibrations above 45 mph (I think that is the #) that led people to put in a 2-pc with a carrier bearing. I have a much better solution, you can PM me so I don't clog this up with reams of info. (hint: I used to work for a composite driveshaft maker. none broken in 9 years of supplying Pro-Stock dragsters and circle track racers)
Contact Carl, he is a really nice guy. Fergus O, 69 2000, HB, CA

Damn, the more I look at those pics, the more I like that NL320.

Anyway, I did Google search on Carl Hockett +California, and came up w/ two listings. If the one in Berkeley is the right Carl, how fitting for a Datsun fan to have a "510" area code. :P

However, there were several hits about a Carl Hockett in Albany, CA who owns four RL411's, so that might be the right Carl. Even had an email address: datsun411@pacbell.net

Cheers.

Albany borders Berkeley, so I'm sure it's the same guy.

Hi All Shasta attendees, I reviewed Riaz's pics of the meet, lots of great cars. There was a N320 pick up like the one I have found. It was cream color and had a for sale sign on the windshield. There was no price or contact info. Can anyone help me get in touch with the seller? Thanks for your help. Pat Mahoney p.s. Shasta is in our plans for next year

Seeing Ralph get in and out of an NL320 would alone be worth the trip to Shasta! Did he cut the roof out to stick his head up through? The guy is like 9 feet tall.
