Grease seal replacement on lower A-frame --question

I am in the process of replacing the grease seals on the lower a-frame Inner shaft on my 1968 1600 rdstr. When I tighten the lower A-frame leg up to the inner shaft may grease seals warp. Should i be tightening the bushing on the inner shaft flush with the leg of the A-frame or is it ok to leave space and to tighten it just enough for the grease seals to make contact with the A-frame leg without warping. I am new at this and am learning as I go along
