Has anyone wired up a starter button?

I was thinking of using a starter switch similar to the S2000 in place of the S/Brake indicator in the dash of my '69 2000. The button would still light up with the switch to indicate the brake warning system is still functional. I want to wire up a relay to the ignition, but all of the diagrams I've found disable the the start function of the original switch.

Any suggestions?

I don't have a 69 wiring diagram in front of me, so you'll have to do a bit of research:

Locate the 12V+ line into the ignition switch
Locate the 'start' line from the switch to the starter solenoid

If the switch can handle a few amps, you won't need a relay.

Just break into both of those lines (while leaving them connected to the ignition switch). Connect each of those lines to each leg of the switch and you are good to go. Of course you want a "Momentary On" switch with a spring return and a seperate circuit for the light (not one that turns on the indicator light when it is on).

If you want to relay isolate the switch, use the leg from the switch as the trigger, ground the other side or the trigger, 12v+ as a input, the output is the starter wire.

An inline fuse might save you some trouble, too.

Good luck, TR

'remote' starter switch

Yep, this is going to be one of my projects ('69 2L) as my key switch has a dead spot where nothing connects. Pep Boys has a nice switch that looks like it'll fit perfect, but it isn't lit.

Summit and Pegasus have starter buttons for race cars. Mine has a push/pull switch to turn on and off and I have a push button from tractor supply company to start.

I think this is a cool idea. Many of the new high-tech, high-end sports cars start by button.
