urethane motor mounts

Post by scotty »

Anyone think they are worth the extra expense? How long does a normal set last? Thanks

I have used the 70 duramoter mounts and stock mounts. The 70's are way to stiff and cause too much vibration. The stock mounts are too soft and do deteriorate. I would recommend using the 50 durometers for your car. This is what I will be using next.

Are you referring to the mounts available from Fairlady Products?

I don't see any durometer ratings listed, just regular and competition. Are they durometer 50 and 70, respectively, that you're talking about?

stock 50 dura's and comps 70 dura's, the comps will make your hands go numb from the vibration, way to stiff.

Thanks. I'm assuming you mean the regular urethane's are durometer 50 rather than the stock motor mounts, correct?

Reason I'm asking is that my mounts don't look rotted or deteriorated, but when I finally got the motor running again, the motor mounts wiggle like Jello.

Can't believe that's normal.

I used an Energy suspension trans mount for a Chevy V8/Universal Hot Rod, $29.00 at Pep Boys. I was cutting and welding the trans mount anyway, so drilled 2 holes and bolted it in. You can also fabricate a simple plate and bolt it in to through the stock holes.

Size is within 1/8 inch on my collapsed broken stock mount. On 4 speed there is room to put the bolts up into trans mount from inside the hollow part of crossmember, 5 speed too low. All dimensions are on Energy Suspension site

If you were to duplicate the preload plate , and bolt it to the mount with flathead screws or drill two holes for the bolt heads to go into the top of the crossmember, the dimensions are the same as datsun mount.
