Hi all!!

Post by 69ner »

Hey guys been browsing the site for a couple of months...and finally took the plung into roadster addiction! Just wanted to say hi to all the members and look forward to seeing some of you guys in the future. Im in the pasadena area so for some of you mabye sooner....anyway i just got my roadster and last night was its first maiden voyage...everything seems to be working fine but i have a few concerns.....

1. Front left side marker is one but wont flash when signaling
2. Front right side marker is off but blinks when signaling
3. Clutch has a soft pedal, it engages about half way when pressed.
4. Tire size may be off....they are 205/70 14...???
5. Interior gauges are super dim at night..

Well look forward to chatting with you all...

Welcome aboard Rick!

Let's see here, for starters, do you have a wiring schematic for the roadster? You're going to want one of those before you start tracking down those electrical gremlins.

On the clutch issue, you're best off to start with bleeding it and getting some ice fresh fluid in there. If that doesn't solve it, we can proceed from there.

205/70/14? You're ready for some off roading action! Those are huge! I didn't think you could fit 205s under the stock fenders. Most of us around here run 195s.

Dim interior lamps....Welcome to Datsun roadsters....

Wiring diagrams are right here on the site:

Besides just dim in general, did you turn the instrument dimmer knob back and forth? Sorry, don't know where it is on the later models.

Hi Rick, welcome to the Roadster world. Pete mentioned the dimmer knob it's a small cone shaped knob, left of the steering column on the lower dash area.

Also about the wiring setup. The 69's used a couple setups. First look at your fuse panel in the glove box. If there is one row it's an early 69 and make sure on the diagram it has one row. If there are 2 rows it's a late 69 with dual fuses for the headlights, much preffered.

Plus there are other small wiring changes during that year. Later 69's have these changes, 4 vs. 3 wire starter harness, a different blinker wiring setup with a 9 pin plug, and also have a different headlight relay. Check your vin # to see. I'm not sure when exactly the switch was made, it's out there somewhere on this site. On a 69 this is important to know..Good luck with your new car.. Bill

Hi Rick,
Welcome to the club…
So you from Pasadena CA? that’s great, I’m not too far from you, I’m about five miles away from Dodger stadium 110 North.
We probably can exchange info or perhaps can meet up in the future.

Hi Rick, I forgot to mention that the side markerlights are basically just running lights so the right side wires might be mismatched, are your turn signals in the front and back working correctly? Bill

Rick,
That’s sound good, we can cruise down to Old town Pasadena for a cup of coffee.
Give me a year or so because my roadsters are still in process of restoring.
I'm trying to get my two roadsters on the road before Solvang 06.
