Alright folks we are coming up on crunch time many of you have told me you are planning to make it to Shasta this year! It’s time to get the registrations sent in as we have only about 6 weeks to go. If you have never been to Shasta or it’s been awhile you need to see what you have been missing. The weather should be great this year, it has been cooler all year so far so if the trend holds it should be great weather for the event. So in the words of Larry the cable guy getter done, get the registrations in!

Come on folks. Get those registrations in so the organizers have a good headcount. If you have never been to Shasta you are missing out. It is a beautiful area. Hope to see some of the folks from 311s there.

It has been noted that I have neglected my Mt Shasta Meet promotional duties.

The Mt Shasta Meet (July 14-16) is THE BEST roadster show!!!!.
If you did not make it to Solvang then you must attend the Shasta Meet.
If you did attend Solvang then you must attend the Shasta Meet to complete the "DOUBLE" of the 2 biggest Roadster shows.
Even our 311s administrator Steve A.is attending from the far reaches of IA so this is a chance to meet him.
There is a full schedule of events on Friday, so get there Thursday for the Evening Ice Cream Social and be ready for the Friday activities.
Accommodations can be had for much less in nearby WEED.
Camping is free in the National Forest on the slopes of Mt Shasta. The paved road up is a fun drive and evening temps are cool at 6000+ feet.
I can even loan you my deluxe camp site as I am not camping this year.
The Turbo Teds will be there and I hope you will too!.
Why I even heard Linda was going to drive her roadster to the meet! NOT.
But I will repeat my annual offer to pay her entry fee and this year even her Camp ground bill!,
IF she drives her roadster to Shasta (top down of course)!
For the rest of you I will suspend Gas gap orientation inspection for the Shasta Meet only.

PT Barnum has nothing on you. You are quite the promoter, which is good!
And thank you for your kind promotional offer re entry, but no Roadster driving to Shasta this year..
I expect to be busy with work over the summer, but Shasta always sounds like fun and I know the organizers do their best to have a good show. So I will look for some pics of all the festivities!

I was wondering where you were Ted. Thought you were not going to make it this year. We are at around 30 cars so far. There is still time to register. Ross, you not making it this year? Very few of our Canadian friends are coming. What is up with that? It has been years since I made a Shasta. Looking forward to putting some faces with names and seeing many Datsun's. Hoping to show up with a roadster one of these years.

All and all it was another successful meet put on by the Premo's and crew. I arrived in Antioch, CA late Wednesday evening via the Oakland Airport and Uber. I have to say Uber works rather well is not too expensive. Got up Thursday -took care of a few honey do's around the homestead and headed north in a borrowed Nissan Sentra. Four hours and fifteen minutes later I was checking into the Evergreen Inn. Met up with Dave and Karen at the Mt Shasta Inn which is the hub for all activities related to the meet. Met some folks for the first time and spoke with folks I had not seen in a long time. It was good to put faces with the names. Ted and I chatted for a bit. We then went to the local Mexican restaurant and had a very filling meal and lots of conversation plus a refreshment containing alcohol. After words Keith Williams finally got his ice cream machine up and running so everyone enjoyed the tasty treats. I was still on Iowa time so I retired.

Friday-met at the Mt Shasta Inn to do the fun run led by Ted Sr. I rode shotgun with him. We had a dozen or so cars in tow. Ted and I were jacking our jaws and Ted missed the tun onto the freeway so we ended up going southbound instead of northbound. I am sure Ted caught some flack over that misstep. We got most everyone turned around and headed in the correct direction. We were going to a forestry truck dealer. Tanker trucks of most any color you can think of. You already saw some of Ted's pictures. We then rocketed up to as far as you can go driving Mount Shasta for a picture shoot. I gotta tell you Ted Sr. pushes that SR as my butt was puckering more than a few times. It was a fun ride though. I swung a deal with Ted Jr. to drive an SR20 powered roadster after the poker run. We broke for lunch and then were to meet back up at the Inn for the Poker Run also organized by Ted Sr. I was going to ride along with someone whom did not have a co-pilot but some how that did not work out. I got offered a car to drive but did not feel right doing that. I went back to the Evergreen Inn and waited for Ted Jr. He let me drive which was a first in an SR car for me. It took a bit of getting used to the clutch and shifting but I think I got the hang of it. Out first destination was the old ski lodge-south side of the mountain. This is where they used to hold the All Datsun Meet which back in the day was mostly 510's. Any way back to driving the SR-it was a ton of fun. After going to the ski lodge we took a second run up the same route that we had done for the fun run. It is hard to rocket to the top following a Prius and there are only several places you can pass. Got around the green folks and scooted the rest of the way up. Coming back down the was a crossover of some kind that wanted to race until his wife probably started yelling at him to sloooow it down. He slammed on his brakes and had stopped in the middle of the road. We shot around him on the right. A big no no but he had most of the left blocked. Any way-thanks to both Ted's for letting me grind the gears. It was a lot of fun. Ate some supper and went back out to the Inn for more socializing. Met Spriso and a few other folks. Keith made some more ice cream and there was a wine social going on. Jeff Torres was selling tees so I picked one of those up. Again being on central time I was beat so I retired.

Got up early Saturday and ate some breakfast. The cars were getting lined up on the portion of the main street that gets closed off for the show n' shine. There some Z's that showed up. And one spectacular white right hand drive 67 2 liter. I mean there were a lot of nice cars but this one really stood out with it's red interior. I planned on leaving early so I could spend some time with our daughter and her family. Plus the fact my flight was leaving at 6 AM Sunday morning. So, I missed the show results and the dinner/awards. I am sure everyone had a great time. Someone will give us a report on who won what.

Anyway that is my run down. I had a good time and it sure looked like everyone else was having a good time as well. I might try to make it again next year. With or without a roadster it is fun.

Best of show went to the recently restored ,1 family owned , RHD 67.5 2000. SR311 00086.
Owners Uncle bought it new in Japan and contrary to the usual low mileage claims, the roadster was a daily driver,
driven cross country 4 times a year and was thought to have accumulated about 600,000. Miles!.

Yes, David-Kaplan's old car is stupid fast. I am not too surprised that the white right-hand drive 2 liter was best of show. It is one sweet looking roady. I knew Ted would step up with a show report.

Home safe and sound! Decent but somewhat chilly drive back to Tacoma yesterday, with a couple of frustrating 1st gear, on the clutch off the clutch crawls for several miles, costing about another hour in travel time. Mostly warp drive 85-100mph cruise though, and no anti-fun patrols spotted (good thing too, cause we had some "you're going to jail" blasts to an indicated 130mph... Probably closer to 120 as I know my speedo is off by 8-10mph at 100, but still pretty darn fast for me). The car did great, never let me down, never got hot or worried me. The bikini top came in handy on the chilly ride home as the cig lighter died for the electric blanket.
The show was great. We honestly didn't participate in a lot of the events, having done them many times before. Instead, we went exploring, hitting all the local waterfalls and river accesses, Castle crag park, did some minor hikes (wife was in flip flops!), and of course the run to the rocks at the top of Shasta. I'm surprised at the number of people who have never driven this wonderful, beautiful and exciting road! We did this as a group at Shasta #2, and have always made a point to return every year.
The show was very well organized, started and completed exactly on time, and I think the group photo was amongst the best we have done. Dinner was great and there was plenty of food for seconds. As usual, I won NOTHING with my raffle tickets, but the prizes given were great and much appreciation goes to the venders and contributors. And of course, nothing beats catching up with old friends (and man, we're getting older, no? ), and making new ones. I met a guy named Rico here in Tacoma who traveled down on Friday for the show with his son. They are now looking to find a car again, Rico having lost his several years ago but never loosing the love. Speaking of love, the car sure gets mobbed at every gas station, rest stop and coffee house. I'm hearing people refer to Roadsters as "one of their dream cars", which is a new category I think... Dream car... Who back in the day other than us saw Roadsters as their Dream Car! It's been mine though, for 30 years, and I know that many of you can relate. Once back in the garage, I thanked her for the trip, the fun, the speed, the dance we do... She's part of me and my life's story... Another great chapter in a book we keep writing. And now I'm writing it with a great co-pilot, my wife Tammy, who wants her own car now! Hey, maybe I will build that turbo-R engine!
