From 2k to 6500, hmm not bad.

Well it sure doesn't look like $6500 to me! From the dash it looks like a 67.5. The mismatched door on the driver's side is probably earlier since it has the older style interior door release, and the smaller flaired front fender must have been a replacement from an older car too. Frankly, I would have passed at $2k, and from what the original poster said, it sounds like the frame is rusty too.

yeah I just saw it up on ebay. Guess thats trailer guy! we'll see what the public bids it up to, although he failed to mention or show a lot of the rust IMO. It makes me a bit sad that it was sold that quickly to a flipper (it was only on CL for 1 day, I contacted the owner 6 hours after he posted it) and someone who truly wants to restore the car, or use it for parts to restore a better example might have to pay more for it. I personally don't see it get anywhere near the buy it now price, I've watched them for the past few months on ebay, and shiny running driving cars were selling for $5-7k on there (although ebay car do seem to go cheaper)

If I wanted a rusty Datsun I would buy this. Its been on CL here for a while, it's tempting...

I love z's, but I think I'd still be incline to buy the 67.5 ebay project. I grew up in Hawaii, and z's were all over the place. Dont get me wrong on the 1600 project I'm not in at $6500. Really thinking about it at around $4500. The body looks pretty good. It has the original engine too. I see where it needs the matching fender you discussed. The seller added a bunch of photos of the whole car. I see what you were talking about regarding the frame. The driver side frame and rear look decent. Seems like the passenger side middle needs work. I have a friend who has an entire roller frame that i can get pretty cheap. Thats if I dont want to do section work. Really tempted!

Did anyone else see the additional pictures the ebay seller recently posted? The frame sure looks sketchy at best. Definitely looks like more of a project than the initial photos suggested.

yeah I think in the one photo you can see where my finger went through the frame
I also looked down in the cowl with a flash light and it was very rusty inside there, which I think I also remember seeing that rust starting to work it's way through the fire wall in the engine bay too.

He looks to be a Stand-up Seller/flipper. I don't think he is going to break even on this Datsun.
In some ways that is good. I revise my estimate - that car and $12,000 will make a nice $9,000 daily driver.

The frame clearly has issues. The body doesn't look too bad.

I spoke to the seller. Very straight up guy. I asked for a couple of more photos. He sent them with no hesitation. The pictures I got of the cowl and fire wall were good. He also took some photos with a magnet around the body for me. I was pretty pleased. The frame doesnt scare me too much. It seems like I can patch the passenger side or I might just buy a roller frame. I'm not at the $5250, but I'll definitely pay $2000. Lol

The good thing is the frames are pretty stout.
You should separate the body and cut off the "cap" of the where the rust is very deep so the inside can be blasted.
Have the frame blasted, than make a jig from the measurements in the Manuals to hold the frame square and get to welding.
That my suggestion or buy a second car and get to mixing and matching. The second car could even be a late model.

Thanks for the advice. I have a friend who has a roller frame. So that's the way I'm leaning. I'll either swap out the whole frame or just the passenger side rail. I like that this one has numbers matching. I can replace a frame. I can't replace numbers matching. I just have to make room for another project. Good thing is that Datsuns dont take up much room. Lol.. I'm from Hawaii. Hows it? Shaka! Just some Hawaiian refs. Thought you might know since you're from Cali. Now I live in Ocean City, Maryland.

It's all about experience level with these projects. I used to run from 1/4 panel rust, now i've had enough experience welding new ones in they don't bother me, but frames still do glad to see there is someone not bothered by it enough to take the project on.

Keeping them on the road is the idea, eh? So be sure to share your experience and expertise for the intrepid new buyers. With the right info and coaching anything is possible!
