I personally like the deep sound of magnaflow. It is not too loud yet you know it is there while you're driving.

Do you run a resonator with that muffler?

I use two small cherry bombs, they give a dark sound and no resistance and they fit great between the cross member and directly to the fuel tank. All the other parts of the exhaust are stainless steel.

I dig the oem resonator that you removed.

I like the deep growl of the megaflow but is there anyway to recreate this tone with a 4cy car?

Sure! Put an L28 in there...

Who has a JT68 2 1/2" exhaust system with a turbo engine? I currently have a savings account growing to fund just such a system from JT68. But there's no way I'm going to spend that kind of coin without first speaking to a turbo owner with an exhaust system from JT68. Since the turbine blades break up the exhaust pulses, a turbo engine will sound very different from a NA motor, so I need some info from a turbo JT68 system owner.
Yes, I know this sounds very nerdy…. Anyone?

Hi Karl,

I'm in the process of building a few 2.5" components to send to Kevin and Michael for 'det cars.

Here is the best way to think about the components of the system:

A. Pipes. Turbo/non turbo, they don't care. Only the diameter wiould affect tone. 2.25 or 2.5" will not sound hugely different from the 2" systems.
B. Muffler. The muffler initially deflects and cancels the sound waves. This piece has a huge impact on the tone. Most off-the-shelf mufflers don't really have the sound that I was after for a roadster. Many are too shrill, raspy or just too loud.
Most allow too much upper midrange sound energy to come through those. The worst are the "fart can" ricer style-terrible.

These took a lot of work to get the right sound. Even though the muffler itself is a fairly small part of the cost of my system, they make a big difference in tone coming out the back.

C. The rear Resonator (booster in Nissan language)

A 2.5 inlet resonator, all stainless, built as the originals were, would be a fully custom, hand made part, which makes it fairly expensive no matter who does the fabrication. If you go this route, you have my word you will like the system. There are also two other options here, you could neck down to the 2" resonator we build and save the extra money on the custom fabrication, or I can include a much less expensive 2.25/2.5" resonator that is not SS. I'd build the system to allow you to swap to an upgraded SS booster if you did not like the budget solution.

As with just about everything else I build, if you do not like what I send, its money back. No worries.

Best - Jt

My wife and I were out for a drive yesterday. As we blasted along, I accidentally hit the ignition kill switch, temporarily shutting off spark... and of course the engine continued to turn as it was in gear, pushing unburned fuel into the exhaust, which then lit off with a loud explosion when I flipped the switch back on... and now I'm getting another muffler! Blew out the baffles so now it rattles like crazy. Bummer!

I had an exhaust system installed yesterday. The muffler guy offered to weld together three 12" generic cherry bombs & said it would sound great!
Went with the Magna Flow.

I called the muffler shop and it is warranted for a year, so they will order a new one and install on Saturday. In the meantime she rattles, a lot. Fortunately at speed the carbs out sound the muffler!
