SR20Det with stock 2000 rear end??

I know a lot of people here do the Mazda rear end swap or a Ford 8" or something to that effect.

What are the pros and cons of just rebuilding the stock rear end? I want to convert it to disks brakes regardless of if I keep the stock 2000 rear end or if I go with another option. I'm mainly worried about the stock rear end being able to handle the 200-250 horsepower of the SR20DET??

Thanks

As I recall, Don Miller's VG30 turbo monster only had rear end failures when running over 300hp with 10"+ wide slicks.

You will be fine just rebuilding it, as there are plenty of DET swaps out there running the stock rear end. If you plan on adding more power or really beating on it, then consider the other options.

You mention converting to disc brakes...the other options may also include this, along with an LSD and more gearing options. These make the Ford/Mazda rear ends desirable.

As long as you are not doing crazy burnouts, the stock H190 will live just fine. We just upgrade to the RX-7 axle to get the LSD and rear discs.

Rx-7 will have better handling over a Ford rear end just on weight alone.

My only issue with the stock rear end was that the passenger tire liked to spin, a lot..

Get a limited slip, problem solved. Or don't drive so hard...

Near impossible to find an OEM LSD, and if you do it's some coin!
IMHO, a one tire-fryer doesn't add to the fun, driving "hard" or not!

Why does it have to be OEM? OS Giken

I mean sure.. But would there be any point to the significant work and money difference in building a turbo powered car and then say don't spin up the turbo? I regularly spun the wheel with an NA powered SR..

The OS piece would probably work perfectly. They make great stuff. Then again, some of the members on this forum are regularly breaking the stock axles with U20 power. So who knows..

It does not. But at that price point, $1500 just for an OS Giken LSD, a full bolt-in Mazda unit with disc brakes and a LSD makes sense.

I went with the rx-7 rear for the LSD. I just really wanted semi lucid hallucinations of being a skilled driver :D

LSD and "hallucinations"...they go hand in hand!
