After putting a criss-cross mesh in my grill, I liked it so much that I decided to try it in the opening of the hood scoop. It hasn't caused any change in my engine temp, and I think it looks unique and kinda cool.

I like it! How did you attach the mesh to the inside of the scoop?

I'm glad you like it Dave. The bottom is rubber (painted aluminum), used for door edge guards. I cut the mesh using a template I made from cardboard. I slipped the mesh in the groove. I put brass tubing in the ends, so I could telescope the proper length. There is also a 3 inch piece of the rubber on top, that is not visible. After manuvering it in the scoop, I put a dab of epoxy on each end. Then I opened the hood and put epoxy on the top rubber from the inside of the hood. If I get tired of it, I can pull it out without any visible damage.

Dave, it's galvanized mesh, with 1/8" openings. The kind of mesh used to cover the openings on the side of your house. I guess to keep various varmints out. I painted it high heat aluminum paint. I'm flattered that you might copy it. I'm sorry I threw away my template. But the mesh is easy to cut with a good sissors. Just be careful you don't scratch your paint while positioning. Let me know how it goes.

Dave, By the way, to make the best effect, you have to put 2 pieces of the mesh, one behind the other. One piece with the squares vertical and the 2nd piece on a 45 degree angle. That's how you get the criss cross effect. The mesh should run about $3.00 at a hardware store. The rubber piece was about $3.00 at Autozone. About $10.00 including paint to make your roadster a little more unique.

Mark, You must be a mind reader. It originally was black, but when I did the grill I painted it silver. After looking at the picture, I realized that if the crossbars were black, the grill would stand out. Looks like I'll have a weeklend project!
