Added a 66 411 to the fleet

For many years I watched this car pop up on Craigslist. It was always a bit more expensive then I thought I'd pay. Now that my roadster is almost completely assembled I thought I'd meet the owner of the 411. An hour later I bought the car. It's quite clean. Still has the stock drivetrain which has a bit more power than a moped. Suspension has been modified and brakes are now disc in the front. I'll have fun with this.

For you 411 owners who are really into their Datsuns,
here is a 1966 411 Introduction Service Bulletin on Ebay.
Not a bad BIN price ($19USD with shipping) if you collect literature.
These introduction bulletins are great as the detail all the changes from the last year model
and have actual photos of the parts which is a great help for restoration.
Not a lot in this one but if you are a 411 collector, you should have it.
Ted.

Nice find looks pretty Cancer free. 3 on the tree or 4 SPd? Love the front end, so Alfa ish without bumper. Looks better without.

Thanks, the car is pretty cancer free aside from a tiny bit at the junction of the trunk pan and the right rear fender. It's a 4 speed I'd like to change the differential to something other than the factory 4.11s according to the books top speed is 85 but you'd want to have a spare motor to hit that. The hardest thing with the 411 is finding parts. This one is a little special being a '66 it still has the body and grill of the 410.

What rear end does it have? H190?

The rear end is a H165

This list refers to an H165.
The R/RL411 used an H190.

If the RL uses a H190, a 3.889 from a 1600 may help, or a 3.7 from a 2000.

Thanks for the input! Looks like a few minutes of research and a look under the car will get me there. I think the H190 3rd member is a 10 bolt and the H165 is 8. It'd be nice if there was a simple bolt in.

Hi Brian,
Slow down, you have "newb" disease.
DRIVE it a lot first. I think you will find a 4.1 rear end is just alright.
We who own 320 trucks have real rear end ratio problems. They come with a 4.88.!
IF you decide to change it later it may not be just a ""pumpkin swap".
If it is a H190 rear end then ANY H190 pumpkin will fit BUT you may need to swap the side gears due to axle spline differences.
H190 rear ends were used in the roadsters, 320-620 trucks and other vehicles. There are many ratios available from the newer trucks.
If it is an H165, you may have problems finding many optional ratios.
Ted.

Ted,
Thanks for the perspective. Yes, I am a forum newb that's true. The current rear end is not a problem. I am just looking to perhaps make the car last awhile. When you're over 50 and your heart is original it's not easy turning those RPMs all day.

Those engines were designed to rev, not loaf along like a modern daily driver

Enjoy. I've seen this one on CL for quite awhile now.
A '67 PL411 was my first car in high school in the late 70's so I have a love for these cars. So much so, I'm restoring a RL411 at Z Car Garage. It should be rolling soon. I had the motor done at Rebello, so it should be a good runner for a 1600cc. Basically, the same setup as a roadster.
Since we're both 411 owners and in the Bay Area, let's stay in touch. My RL411 is the same color BTW. I have just purchased Panasports so that we can tell them apart from a distance. My goal is to next get a roadster just like yours. Nice collection. See you around!
